Recommendations wanted for NON-scented clumping litter

This feels like a rerun of the scented san-pro discussion, but what good clumping cat litters are out there that are unscented? I did a quick search, couldn’t see any recent chats about this.

We used to use Sanicat color4u blue clumping silica litter. It was great - very small, soft granules, low tracking, good clumping that didn’t weld to the tray, no dust. Lasted for ages. It’s now been discontinued.

I bought a litter from Pets at Home that was not labelled as scented on the shelf sticker, but turns out to be scented anyway. The only smell problems we have generally are the poos (could weaponise hers if she’s been out catching and eating mice), we scoop the clumps once a day well before it develop a smell. Now, with this scented stuff, it releases a dreadful sickly scent as soon as it’s wet, that permeates throughout our kitchen and lounge.

I also don’t want the cat to think scented things are things to use as toilet iyswim.

Any recommendations?

We use "World's Best Cat Litter" - it's made from corn I think, anyway very low odour and definitely no scent to it, and it is flushable. It's usually stocked by Pets at Home in a black and green bag, but you can get it online too.

We use wood based litter, it's unscented and easy to clean

Couchpotato3 · 02/09/2019 22:23

Wow that link came out looking a bit scary, but it does work!

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 02/09/2019 23:05

Sainsbury's clumping litter. Used it for years - works well and doesn't smell.

EvenFlo2 · 02/09/2019 23:12

We also use a litter made from corn, can’t remember the name and not home to check - but it’s from B&M, has Garfield on the front and costs hardly anything! And because it’s corn a big bag weighs hardly anything.

Cats Best Oko Plus

We tried a few and it really is the best. We buy it online from Zooplus but you can also get it from Pets at Home.

Intersand classic do a non scented version.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 03/09/2019 07:04

We use Cats Best which is unscented

SleepyKat · 03/09/2019 07:12

Cats best here as well.

ExpletiveDelighted · 03/09/2019 07:13

Cats Best here too

bodgeitandscarper · 03/09/2019 07:17

Professional Classic do a non scented clumping, it seems expensive but lasts ages and is easy to scoop daily. I've tried loads of litters (6 cats) and found this the best by far. Available from here:- www.bitiba.co.uk/shop/cats_accessories/cat_litter/professional_classic/clumping/371318

I also use Cats Best, but the Smart Pellets variety as the smaller woodchips get stuck to long-haired toes... It isn't cheap, but it last ages - normal litter I change completely every week, with this stuff I top it up a bit weekly but only change the whole tray out every 4-6 weeks.

havenofwhiskers · 03/09/2019 08:35

Sainsbury's ultra clumping litter (purple bag) is excellent.

funnelfanjo · 03/09/2019 21:23

Thank you for the recommendations, I’ve taken notes and will probably try the Worlds best first. For some reason, our local Sainsbury’s is often out of stock of all types of cat litter!

5 votes for Cats Best... just sayin Wink

funnelfanjo · 03/09/2019 21:44

I hear you! I do like the idea of the natural materials too.

I’ve just switched to Tigerino Canada Sensitive (which is the unscented one) and it’s brilliant. Clumps perfectly and there’s no smell. I’d previously used Cat’s Best but much prefer Tigerino.

GingerKittenHuman · 04/09/2019 12:15

Another vote for Cats Best. I got a large holed scoop from amazon to make sifting easier. I particularly like that it is biodegradable and flushable.

Like pp I only do a complete change every 4 weeks or so. I do find it tracks a little but solved with a litter mat.

@funnelfanjo
Late to the party, but saw you considered world's best.
I was told chicken starter feed (granulated) is the same. So I tried it, and it is very good. When buying it as chicken feed you can buy bigger quantities and it is cheaper Smile.

BigmouseLittlehouse · 06/09/2019 16:06

With the corn based ones make sure you seal the bag as I understand they can attract rodents!

I was using worlds best but switched to intersand classic which is unscented. In my very unscientific survey of two cats I think the intersand is a bit better for smells than worlds best. Not flushable though ( but i use a litter locker).

FMFL · 08/09/2019 16:02

@madambee ooh chicken starter feed as litter sounds interesting...does it minimise smell? Is there a particular brand you’d recommend?

theoriginalmadambee · 08/09/2019 17:43

@FMFL
I'm not in UK, so can't give you a brand, but make sure it is granulated (sort of crushed pellets). It smells sort of rye bread. I don't think urine smells, but of course you can smell poo. Haven't had a litter where you couldn't Smile.

With pee you should wait 5-10 min. and it will be clumping.

We love it, it really works for us, we have two cats. One took to the litter straight away, with the other we had to switch over little by little. But it depends how squeamish your cats are.

Don't put it outside, it attracts rodents, birds etc. Oh and I flush the poo with a little litter on, no problem so far. I know world's best is 'flushable' but haven't tried with starter feed.

Please come back if you need further information. And best of luck Smile.
