we have a family of me DH DD2 DD4 we have a border collie dog whos 7. Shes okish with cats she wont chase one.

I want a rescue cat we live where cat could go outside easily would even maybe get a catflap. The type of cat i would like
loving and loves a fuss
friendly but confidence
good with dogs
good with small children they are good with the dog and leave her alone but stroke / play with supervision

does this type of cat exist or am i asking too much?

It does but it's a bit hit and miss if you get one . I have 3 and only one is like this ..
getting a grown up cat is much better in your situation because you can judge those personality . Also bringing a cat into a dog home is much better than the other way round imo ..

It definitely does exist, especially if you're open minded and not set on a specific age/colour etc.

An adult rescue cat would be ideal as their personality will be known. Cats end up in rescue for all sorts of reasons - some have been strays but many have come from homes due to people moving, becoming allergic or a host of other reasons. Some will already have lived with dogs in the past, or been dog tested and assessed to be suitable.

Where are you in the country, someone may be able to recommend smaller rescues near you? Sometimes the bigger ones have stricter criteria about no kids under 7 etc., but I know for certain many will be happy to home a suitable cat to family with children and a dog.

yep not botherd in the slightest about colour/gender at all. I have looked at my local rspca and filtered the results for what i wanted and they have one a white cat with tabby patchs a young boy called smudge. My DH is 100% on board yet but i think if we went to the local cats place (rspca) he would be smitten.

We had collie, he absolutely loved our cats. I don’t think he even realised they were cats 😂

The only other thing about rescues is they can be fussy about your house . They usually do a home check and if you are near a road they won't let you have a cat.. I was declined because I live a massive field away from a fairly busy road 🙄 so I bought some kittens .. such a shame because they are perfectly safe and have an amazing home ( as I tried to tell her )

Just to say, definitely get a microchip catflap.

My cat loves hers, and research shows it makes cat feel more In control if they can come and go as they please (once they have settled in ofcouse and you are sure they won’t get lost).

Good luck, I am sure you will give an amazing home to a cat.
