Grooming a short/medium haired cat

Dcat is 5 ish and we got him as a rescue about 9 months ago. He's officially listed as a BSH but his hair is a bit longer than "short" if that makes sense. I've been brushing him about once a week with a furminator (actually a dog furminator, because we already had one). He loves it and it seems to get a decent amount of hair out but he's still getting small clumps, mainly towards the back end of his back, which are then quite difficult to get out. I tried with a comb last night and it was obviously pulling quite badly and he even swiped at me which is totally unlike him Sad. Does anyone have advice either on what sort of brush is best for regular grooming (NB we also have a bog standard cat brush but the bristles seem to be too far apart to do anything at all), or how to get out the clumps that have already formed? Thanks!

Pic of clump, plus pic of cat looking crazed.

I cut small clumps out with small round ended scissors. I got them from pets at home I think

I have this set. Maybe it was from The Range as I bought them in a shop

Thank you - I've just ordered it.

Any recommendations for a general grooming brush? Does anyone use a tangle tease? I thought I might give mine a go but don't want to waste it as I'm quite fond of it myself..

I use a cheap version of a tangle teaser from super drug as the bristles are slightly stiffer, on my long haired Persian. She isn't a fan of grooming but quite likes it. And a metal comb for a proper going over. A slicker brush works Wonders on my Exotic shorthair.

Thank you. I've given him a good going over with a (human) plastic comb and a tangle tease and I think I got most of the clumps out. Will look again tomorrow and if there's anything left I'll snip it out.

Zoom grooms. They get a free massage as wellGrin

I got one off eBay, it was under self cleaning cat brush
TBH mine even likes being brushed with a flea comb, he sits there for hours blinking and purring. If I stop then he takes the brush and falls asleep with it ConfusedConfused

I've found human brushes and combs really good with mine. And they are cheaper than the animal equivalent.
