Bowls for messy eaters

We have 2 male kittens. They are 6 months old. They share 3 sachets of wet food per day and dry food is always available. No matter how the dried food is served, they manage to get it everywhere. I've tried plates, shallow bowls, deeper bowls, double bowls (as in photo) a non-slip mat and a tray, but there's always food everywhere and loads is swept in to the bin.
Any tips please?

Ooh, thanks Rosy. Bet they'd still manage to make a mess but it's worth a try.

I tried these With my two but found they were better with their fish feeder. It looks as if your dry food Bowl is over full though. Try putting less in it?

I feed mine in an Ikea cereal bowl -seems to have done the trick

dementedpixie · 31/08/2019 10:46

I'd also put less food in the bowl

MitziK · 31/08/2019 11:02

I'd cut out the unnecessary expenditure - dump the crunchies direct in the tray. That way, they develop some degree of competence in picking the things up before you introduce the additional challenge of getting them out of a bowl.

or in the case of DTwatCats, they still drop them everywhere after 7 and 14 years respectively

Anyone else's cat take mouthfuls of food and then deposit it on the floor elsewhere to eat?

Yes Grin
Our male lifts biscuits in his mouth , takes them a couple of steps away , deposits them on the floor , lifts them back then eats them.
Then......does that cute sweeping action on the floor with his front leg extended , scooping all the crumbs (which wouldn't be there if you ate it on the CatMat Confused )

Ollie has a preference for raw chicken wings as "movie snack in your bed mama"
I put a swift stop to that one

DCat1 prefers her meat ‘aged’. So if we feed her roast or poached chicken at night, it’s not appealing but guaranteed she eats it the next morning. If we try to bin it, she takes it for a walk. DCat2 likes to pick up his crackers from the bowl and crack them on the floor. DCat1 likes the water fountain while DCat2 likes his water from a bowl. DCat2 thinks the water fountain is for washing his paws and seeing how many times he can stop the pump before Papa gives out to him.

I would get them off those high grain biscuits and onto grain-free, which will fill them up better (and are much better for boy cat's bladders) so they'll need much less.
