My boy is missing

I came home this morning after working a night shift last night to find out our 4 year old rescue cat has been missing all night. He was last seen around 9pm last night in the garden.

I know it doesn't seem like a long time but he never goes far, rarely leaves the garden and always comes when called. He has been with us just over a year, he lives knees and cuddles and food. He has never been away from his surroundings and I am beside myself.

We love him so much. The dcs are 23 and 9 and adore him and will be completely devastated if he doesn't come home.

I haven't slept, been out walking the local streets calling him. I've put it in Facebook, called the local vets, not sure what else I can do. Heartbroke

Dcs are 13 and 9, not 23.

We are due to go on holiday on Monday, how on earth do we go if he's still missing?

It's very warm and coming inside is unappealing. I really hope he comes home soon and will be honking of you and checking back.

Monr0e · 24/08/2019 19:25

Thank you

Even on days like this he lies in the shade in the garden. He has never stayed away. I can only think he's been chased away and got lost. Or worse has been hurt.

Print out some leaflets that you can post through your neighbours doors with a photo and description of him on. Ask people to check sheds and garages.

Hopefully he'll just wonder in like nothing has happened very soon.

Lindy2 · 24/08/2019 19:32

Does he have a litter tray? If so put it outside. The smell of it will help him find his way home if he has wandered a bit too far. His bedding (or similar) or even dust from your hoover, placed outside will all provide a scent for him to follow if he is looking to find his way back.
Knock on your neighbours doors and ask them to check their garages and sheds. Go with them to check if you can. A quick peek inside might not be enough if he is scared and hiding.
Going out to look late at night or early morning when it is quiet is also a good idea. You might be able to hear him even if you can't see him.
I hope he is back safe and sound soon.

Thank you, printer broken but I am handwriting notes to put through doors with his description on.

Going to go out again at dusk. I'm praying he's just got spooked and is hiding waiting for a quiet time to come home.

I will put his litter out now and also his blanket in the garden

Thank you

Some good advice, really hope he comes home soon. Let us know. Flowers

Monr0e · 24/08/2019 22:39

Thank you everyone. He is home! I had put the litter, food and blanket out a couple of hours ago. I was heading out to have another look when I saw him sitting just inside the back door.

He is very subdued, he tried to miow and nothing came out and I think he has a limp
He's not eating anything, seems absolutely knackered and just wants to sleep. He is currently hiding in the play room in amongst all dd's toys do just letting him settle back in. Thanks again everyone

Yay....fantastic news. Hopefully after a nice sleep tonight and some food he'll back to his normal self....and won't go wondering off again. I used to wish I had a tracker fitted to our cats at times. I bet your children are so happy to have him back. You'll sleep well tonight.

Lindy2 · 24/08/2019 23:10

I'm so glad he's home. Hopefully after some sleep he'll be more like himself again.

MustardScreams · 24/08/2019 23:14

If he is still limping tomorrow I’d take him in to see the vet, just to give him the once over. Cats are very good at hiding pain, and there is the possibility he could have been injured by a car hence his disappearance. I’d keep an eye on him tonight just to be on the safe side.

Fingers crossed he just needs to chill out and recover, but it’s always best to err on the side of caution.

EL8888 · 24/08/2019 23:15

Silly puss! Glad he is back

Monr0e · 24/08/2019 23:24

Thank you everyone

He has refused all food and is fast asleep, he is absolutely shattered, don't think he's slept at all while away.

I'll definitely be keeping a close eye on him and if I'm concerned at all I'll get him to the vets

Oh bless him, he's clearly shattered after his big adventure. Hopefully he'll be fine tomorrow and eat loads after catching up on his sleep.

gazingahead · 25/08/2019 09:11

So glad he's home, brilliant trick putting the bedding and tray outside!

MustardScreams · 25/08/2019 12:59

How is he today @Monr0e?

Monr0e · 25/08/2019 13:11

He slept next to me all night, he's very quiet but has eaten. I've put his litter and food in our room so he can just stay in here as he doesn't seem to want to move.

I've checked again for injuries and he has a scrape / cut on the inside of his left rear hind leg. It's not bleeding or deep, more took his fur off, not sure what to do to be honest, certainly doesn't need stitches or anything.

OP posts:
Lindy2 · 25/08/2019 13:30

I think I'd get him checked by a vet. It's good he has eaten but it sounds like he's had some sort of incident.

MustardScreams · 25/08/2019 13:34

I would also give a vet a call today tbh. He could have internal injuries which is why he’s not wanting to move much.

Hope he’s ok op.

MonChatEstMagnifique · 25/08/2019 13:43

Good to hear he's eaten but I would take him to get checked over by a vet as pp said.

One of our cats came home limping one day with what just looked like a small cut on his back leg. He was ok but not interested in going out. We took him to the vet who managed to look properly and it was much bigger than we thought and was infected. The vet said it looked like a bite, possibly from another cat or even a fox. He needed antibiotics but was fine after the treatment. Cats are very, very good at hiding their pain apparently.

Monr0e · 01/09/2019 10:17

Sorry for the delay in updating but wanted to let you know he is fine and to thank everyone.

We had him checked out, nothing broken but feeling very bruised. His leg didn't require stitches but the vet gave us some antibiotics to stop any infection developing

He is healing well and much better in himself. I was very reluctant to let him out again but I did and he is back to sitting in the garden and I make sure he is in before dark. He is being very loving and wanting a lot of company which is fine by us Smile

I'm so glad he is ok.

Mia184 · 01/09/2019 11:49

Thanks for the update and I‘m glad that he is ok.

MonChatEstMagnifique · 01/09/2019 11:59

Poor kitty, feeling bruised. Good to hear its nothing major though and that he's healing well.

I guess you will never know what happened to him on his adventure but hopefully he sticks to the garden from now on.
