Will they ever get on?

We have been looking after a cat for a couple of weeks whose elderly owner is in hospital. He's a lovely, placid cat.
Unfortunately our cat is not impressed.

We kept them apart for the first week and then gradually introduced them. Our cat will sit in the same room as him but if they pass in the hall she hisses and strikes him.

It's possible that his owner may need to go into a nursing home and we're keen for the cat to stay with us so that our friend can still visit him.

Does anyone have any advice on how to help these two lovely cats get along?

Felifriends and plenty of time.

Got our kitten 2 years ago - older cat very unimpressed took about 6 months to learn to put up with her but kitten was very persistent in being friends and now they love each other - once the older cat would just hiss and try to fight her and now they are currently snuggled up together at the end of my bed

Thank you for your response practically perfect. I'll be so happy if they end up good friends.

Looking further ahead, if the cat is very placid you may be able to take it in to the nursing home to visit your friend! I know more and more places are letting pets in as it's therapy for the patients, though they may insist that you let the other residents have a stroke too.

It was a bit too soon to introduce them.
