Did my cat just have a seizure?

She is sat on my lap now and seems fine and settled apart from a very swishy tail. Her eyes are normal. She's not distressed. So it's not an emergency or immediate vet visit based on that.

However, about half an hour ago she was laid happily on my lap and suddenly stood up, swayed about so I had to catch her, dropped her head and started hitting it with her front paws. Then she fell on her side and lifted her back legs up like a rabbit and pushed her front paws through them all while keeping her head down and flexing her paws open and closed. She was tense.

I don't know if her eyes were open as I didn't want to start messing about moving her.

This all took a few minutes (enough for me to realise she wasn't just being daft, call my husband over and him to actually come over).

Then she relaxed, seemed a little disoriented for a moment and that was that. She sat up, looked about and laid back down on my lap like normal.

Edited - Husband has just put food down, she was a little slow going to it but jumped down and walked over normally.

Could be... I have one with epilepsy-cats are generally quite sleepy and withdrawn after a full episode. My boy is controlled via meds and a relatively stress free lifestyle...
Is she an indoor or outdoor cat? If outdoor I would keep her in certainly the rest of today and if possible over the weekend then take her to vet on Monday. If she has come out of it then there is no need to rush to out of hours vet just yet. Vet advice is generally keep them safe and warm and let them come out of it themselves...
If it happens again grab your phone and video it- very useful for the vet to see. You could also join one of the many Facebook groups for owners of cats with epilepsy and explain what has happened to them- they are good at info and advice.
What age is she?

@Potentialmadcatlady thank you. She's about 5 we think. Indoors only. She finished meds for a UTI a few days ago but we are confident she's over that now. If it's not one thing with her...

You need to speak to a vet.

Ivy cat had a similar episode at the start of a very scary episode of acute kidney damage. She had been poisoned. I don't want to scare you unnecessarily but I really think your cat needs to be checked over properly.

As with all the posts on human ailments - strangers on the internet are not a good replacement for professional advice!

5 or 6 is the normal age to develop epilepsy in cats if it’s gonig to happen.
But if she has had a recent Uti that is a bit more concerning and will need checked. It’s good she is an indoor cat- means you can keep a very close eye on her. Try and keep her calm, settled and in her normal routine. On days I think my boy is ramping up for a seizure I stay in House with him keeping an extra close eye..

@HarriesofHarrogate it could be. My cat’s seizures consisted of her falling over onto her side, all her legs stiff and she would lift her right paw up to ear and kind of wave it. This would last for a couple of minutes and then she’d come round and be disorientated for while. I filmed these episodes for the vet, as describing them was difficult. If she doesn’t have any more it should be okay, but if she has another one soon I would take your cat to the vet so that they can start ruling out the more obvious reasons. Hope she’s okay
