Hi

We have been thinking very seriously about getting a cat/kitten. We are animal people but have no other pets and I've never had cats. I've been doing lots of research and would love some tips about the basics - litter trays - I don't really get them??!! I can't fit a cat flap is that a problem??

Keep him on what he ate in Rescue for now . Too much change too quickly can upset his guts and he needs some familiarity right now.

Our two were on Whiskas and biscuits. I kept them on this a week then slowly added grain free .
They're eating Crave now , (as their dry food) and still on Whiskas pouches but we try them on diferent things to see what they like (just swapping one meal at a time)

There were some they didn't like , and Felix gave one of them a dose of the squirts (soft pooh not liquid)

IIRC you can compost pee waste but not solid .
Keep his tray well away from his food and give him privacy .
Animals thrive on routine and especially Rescues , they need the security of knowing where their next meal is coming from. Then they settle in and get bolshy ...Oi , what time d'ya call THIS then ? tapping on the invisible cat watch on their wrist.

OK - now you do realise that Litter Tray Law demands a photo..........??

Ok this is a stupid question. When you scoop up the poop what do you do with it? In outside bin- mines at the top of the drive, normal bin, down loo? In nappy sack? Confused

You will become a cat slave

You will never wee alone again

ikiboo my cat’s favourite is to go round and round my legs when I have a last minute wee before leaving for work. She likes to make sure I am 90% cat hair before I leave.

OP no-one has mentioned this I don’t think, but you need a LOT of lint rollers. I bulk buy them in Flying Tiger, and there is one in each room, one in the vestibule by the front door, and I keep one in my desk drawer at work. Our cat is pure white, and walks around in a cloud of hair. We use a silicon mitt thing to groom her. You can take off a tennis ball of hair, and she still drifts off trailing it like tumbleweed the second you stop.

Thanks for the advice!
I'm keeping him on the dry food he had in the rescue, and the Whiskas that he's used to, in his morning feed. Have tried a couple of tins of Cosma with him in the evening, which he has wolfed down as well as his normal food. I wanted to find packaging that was recyclable, but it costs a lot more.

Have got a slotted scoop, so hopefully can empty cat litter straight into the composter after removing the solids or unused pellets.

He's made himself right at home though! Here are a few pics of him on the day we brought him home.

He's a very handsome chap - never had a black and white cat - but I've always fancied one.

Actually, watch Simon's Cat videos. They're practically a documentary.
