Honestly why are cats so contrary ...

Bigcat spends his life ( quite sensibly) avoiding direct contact with my two DCs, particularly the youngest. Although he does like being in the same room as them and observing them from on high.

DCs are away with their dad for 10 days. Bigcat has spent yesterday and today yowling in their bedrooms ( he goes into each room in turn), then yowling at me, carrying their cuddly toys to their beds, and then sleeping at their doors. Culminated in his special ‘I’m disconcerted’ trick of peeing on the doormat.

I guess he could be worried they might jump out at him from somewhere but it honestly seems like he is missing them!

Littlecat aka cuddle cat is completely unperturbed and has spent the day in the garden. Probably enjoying the respite form his cuddles.

He's missing them! How sweet. :)

Here he is giving me the evils with a stolen toy tiger ...

Oh a Meezer! They are funny about their peoples are Meezers :)

BigmouseLittlehouse · 09/08/2019 15:09

Yes he is a funny fellow - actually very quiet and gentle for a Meezer ( this was the reason he was in rescue he wasn’t Siamese enough!). But clearly thinks he is in charge of the house ...

The answer to most cat queries is "because they are bastards"

And we still love them Confused

YetAnotherSpartacus · 09/08/2019 15:13

Is he a traditional rather than modern Meezer (so to speak)? He has the chunky build of a traditional from that photo. I grew up with a traditional borrowed from the neighbours and he was adorable. Not very quiet , but mostly gentle, but knew how to defend himself if necessary.

BigmouseLittlehouse · 09/08/2019 15:25

@YetAnotherSpartacus - yes he is a traditional, he is quite a hefty cat. I understand his mother was a Thai. He really is quiet most of the time ( my other is a Burmese who is most definitely vocal!), unusually for a Siamese. Very gentle with littlecat as well but occasionally tells him off. He has never bitten or scratched, guards the DCs when they are ill. He’s a lovely boy.

He is gorgeous. From experience, I will tell you that he will have complex and hidden depths. He might not want actual contact with your DC, but he will see them as 'his' and he will be missing them. You are probably lucky re the lack of vocalisation. Our neighbour's cat used to let the whole street know when it was breakfast time 6am

BigmouseLittlehouse · 09/08/2019 15:43

Yes when he does yowl it is loud! He is also very clever and a bit sensitive ( he didn’t like Christmas at all!)

Neighbour’s cat was dumber than a box of rocks ... the exception that proves the rule.

Iwantacookie · 09/08/2019 15:54

I have one like this. If she wakes up and I'm not there she goes all over the house looking for me.
She then comes and greets me like a dog when u get back.

Fluffycloudland77 · 09/08/2019 15:59

Are you the one who used to poach fish for the cat when he was a kitten?.

BigmouseLittlehouse · 09/08/2019 16:50

@Fluffycloudland77 Blush yes that’s me!

OP posts:
Sparklfairy · 09/08/2019 16:54

If I'm here I get ignored all day. If she comes in the cat flap and thinks no one is home I will hear the most pitiful crying and yowling, until she finds me and goes back to ignoring Grin

BigmouseLittlehouse · 09/08/2019 17:03

@Sparklfairy Grin typical cat!

I have to admit bigcat greets me at the door when I come home. He has nice manners!

This is him tolerating over needy littlecat ( next to a stork child’s hat. Little cat steals underwear and distributes it around the house...)

My cats hate the dog, spend all there time leaping out of his way and violently avoiding his bed as though it was poison. He’s a massive lab who has no idea what he’s done to offend.

He was away for 2 days and they were all in his bed and shoving his food bowl about heartbroken! He came back and got thumped then back to the status quo.

Cats are weird

Weezol · 09/08/2019 17:12

Two of the staff have left the house Without Permission. Did you even run it past him, give him notice of the change in circumstances? Talk it through with him?

Fluffycloudland77 · 09/08/2019 18:00

Does he eat cat food now?.

BigmouseLittlehouse · 09/08/2019 18:02

Fluffy yes he does! But generally more expensive brands. He’s actually very greedy and is a terrible food thief! I’ve had to buy those ridiculously expensive microchip feeders to stop him eating littlecats

Our cat is basically an arsehole. She makes a point of going from room to room waking everyone up each morning, before 7am whenever possible. (It’s the school hols ffs) She jumps in front of the car when you drive into the driveway, cue emergency stop each time. She actually shat in the kitchen sink one night, although I was secretly impressed that it wasn’t on the carpet. She really does hate me and waits at the top of the stairs to grab my legs and make me fall. However she is always waiting for us when we get home. She does the school run and the dog walks every day as well. Still acts miserable and generally cross though.

Surely the inference is that beating up the dog is their actual hobby ;)

flashingbeacon · 10/08/2019 00:14

@Ellmau you’re totally right. They were sad their toy was missing.

The only other time they are ‘nice’ to him is when they have flea treatment and need something to wipe on.
