Help - severe flea infestation in house

Population explosion. Oh hell - we moved house a month ago, came downstairs this morning, looked down at my legs and there were about 20 fleas on my ankles, ugh! As I watched, more of them jumped on.

The people we bought from had several cats, and I think the house must be full of eggs that have hatched.

OMG - what do we do?

Do your cats have a spot on? The expensive ones cause the fleas to die immediately (the ones on the cat obviously!). The fleas need a cat to complete their life cycle...

Oh - you don’t have a cat? Call the exterminator - they’ll set bombs off (gas ones, obviously you don’t want to burn the house down!)

Indorex from ebay/amazon/a vet

Follow the instructions carefully re hoovering regularly after spraying

Get to pets at home and get some flea bombs pronto and the spray can to do under stuff

You need this. It's amazing you'll probably need a couple of bottles though. Honestly it's the best stuff.

Yes second that either a private pest control company or the council (that's what we did)

OK, been there, done that. Move into a house that had had cats, dogs, and lots of fleas!

You need to get yourself some foggers (one per floor, at least). You let them off and have to leave the house for several hours, then air it when you come back in. If you have an aquarium, the fish may be affected, although mine were fine. It's the only thing I've found that truly works. Bayer do one. I don't know where you by them in the UK. Here it's at the chemist.

Good luck!

Check with your council - ours have a free service for getting rid of fleas !

Also don't panic if you still see a few for a week or so after treatment it can just take a while for them all to die !

onemorecakeplease · 09/08/2019 09:01

Yes get flea bombs. We had fleas in the loft from a mouse family who lodged with us one winter.....
Flea bomb and they were gone in hours never to return!

You will need a few and you can get them from pet shops or hardware shops.

Don't mess about with spray etc this will kill them all and then you can hoover/clean after

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 09/08/2019 11:23

Another recommendation for Indorex - really works well - and no need to call in the council or external exterminators.
Might need a couple of treatments but works very quickly.

BettaSplenden · 09/08/2019 11:24

Indorex is good but in a case that bad I'd do a smoke bomb of the house. I had to do that in my previous rental that had had cats in. Worked a treat x

Thanks all, been shopping now. Let the extermination begin!
