Cattery or Pet sitter?

I'm off on holiday for 2 weeks in spetember and I'm still undecided about booking him in to a cattery or hiring a pet sitter to visit twice a day.
I have done both in the past and he seemed equally as stressed by both experiences. At the cattery he rarely left his box and when the cat sitter was here he rarely left his hiding spot under my bed. I'm not sure what option is best.
He is a shy but affectionate rescue cat who is used to my full attention and going outdoors. The plus of a cattery would be the outdoor access as they have outdoor pens attached whilst a pet sitter probably wouldn't let him out (I don't have a cat flap) However, I know cats are territorial so I'm thinking perhaps he is more comfortable at home? Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Leave him at home. It'll be a lot less stressful for him I bet he's fine once the cat sitter has gone. Or try a different cat sitter. I have a shy boy who will not have anything to do with strangers but had a friend cat sit whilst I was away and she actually made friends with him!!! I had to see photographic evidence to believe it ha

I have both. If I'm away for more than 36 hours then they go to the cattery. Where the staff adore them. If it's only overnight they have a cat sitter. I am far more relaxed when they are in the cattery. They have a great time and never want to come home.

I’ve never tried a Cattery, always had a pet sitter. But do have a cat flap so they can come and go as they please and have bonded with my sitter who is completely bonkers about cats too. She is a complete darling and will spend up to an hour with them twice a day... food, cleaning litter and then some play time. I came home from holiday once to find she’d bought them a new toy and ‘hoped I didn’t mind’. Photo and text updates help too! If you find a good sitter they’re the best option.

It really depends on your cat.

We did the cattery thing for our honeymoon and it was not great. Great cattery - big pens with outdoor runs and lovely view of a garden (i.e. interesting things to look at) - but our two didn't like it. It took them weeks to readjust to living at home.
Since then we've opted for the in home care options and it works much better for us and them.

Ours were semi feral rescue cats and have access to the out doors (cat flap) - so perhaps the confines of the cattery just didn't suit them and being at home where they know their territory is more comforting.

Most cats are creatures of habit and do not like change ...

Can you get a cat flap?

Can you get a cat flap?

Unfortunately not as the house is rented.

I'm still in two minds about it. I spoke tothe last pet sitter and she isn't available while I'm away so would need to be a new person. Going back to see the cattery to speak to the owner about how he was last time. It was for 7 days last time so I'm hopefully thinking 2 weeks might allow him time to settle? Really now sure what to do.

I was lucky mine was in situ when i moved in. Are you in North London at all? I have a great cat sitter. uk.catinaflat.com/ ive had some good ones from there as well.

He's a rescue. So he's spent time in a cattery. He probably has leaned not to like it. I'd keep him at home with a good cat sitter.

Get a new pet sitter. Mine is like the cat whisperer. Even the most scared cat loves her.
