Kitten won't poo?

Hi we've recently got a kitten she's 9weeks old eating fine and drinking, urinating etc happy playful little girl but she hasn't gone for a poo yet? Is this normal ? I've moved the box around and she will sit in there and wee but no poo

They get disturbed by changing house and that often leads to worrying no-poos for days! Ours went at least five before laying a monster log.

When they're that age so much of the food goes into growth that there isn't all that much buildup either, which allows them to do this without exploding!

@SpoonBlender ah that's brilliant to know thank you I was worrying and about to phone a vet for an appointment it's like having a newborn baby all over again Grin

My kitten didn't poo for a few days either when I first got her, I posted on here about it as I was worried. Then I found piles of poo in a couple of different hidden places of my living room Grin

TheoriginalLEM · 02/08/2019 16:15

How long have you had her?

SpoonBlender · 02/08/2019 18:08

Happy to reassure. In payment, I accept kitten pix!

viccat · 02/08/2019 21:19

Well, it depends what you mean by recently? Are we talking hours, days, a week?

anitagreen · 02/08/2019 23:20

Ooh sorry we've had her since Wednesday morning! And here is a pic of her

Do you have two trays? She might not like weeing and pooing in the same place - some cats don't.

anitagreen · 02/08/2019 23:27

@mineofuselessinformation I haven't had two out but I do have another so I'll try that she still hasn't gone but I'm not too worried now just would be nice to know she can go okay

Awwww! I'm sure she'll leave you a lovely present soon and you'll be regretting ever wanting her to :)

viccat · 03/08/2019 12:53

I actually disagree with the other comments, having fostered kittens and had four myself. Kittens are not like adult cats who can easily not eat or use a litter tray for days in a new home. Kittens usually poo several times a day so from Wednesday until Saturday is a long time.

Now of course it's possible she's going somewhere else instead of the litter tray. Have you searched behind furniture etc.?

Got her an appointment for tomorrow afternoon I think she's constipated I feel so sorry for her is there anything I can do in the mean time to help? X

@SpoonBlender you was right she's just done the worlds biggest poo !x

Kaboom!

@viccat Perhaps you're better at making them feel comfortable more easily? I've helped out with seven kittens in three homes in the last two years and all but one boy did that 'hold it in' thing. Do you have tips to share maybe?

MadCatEnthusiast · 04/08/2019 03:48

Mine was constipated when she first arrived at 9 weeks. We heard her strain whenever she went to her tray and vet said she was actually constipated and gave her some lactulose to solve it.

anitagreen · 04/08/2019 12:33

I think service has resumed she's gone again this morning Grin next step is to work out how to stop her thinking our dinner on a plate is hers, I left the room to get a drink last night and came in to find her actually standing on my fajitas sniffing the cous cous they have no shame do they!

Now you know that the V.E.T appointment is the magic bullet.

anitagreen · 04/08/2019 13:33

@YetAnotherSpartacus biggest waste of £45 ever we even cleaned the tray out last night as a last ditch attempt to get her to go it had one wee in it and she decided she must have a poo right then and there. Least she had a day out today Grin

We've managed to keep our current ones completely unaware that human food might also be cat food, by never feeding them human food and arranging things so that they never and up accidentally eating it - they couldn't get up onto the table as kittens, and plates go directly into the dishwasher with no opportunity for licking. It can be done! Although if yours has already learned about human food, it might be very tricky to keep her off until she forgets.

DP's mum always complains about her cat begging, but she's always feeding her from her plate so...
