Could you let me have some? Just picked up kitten from rescue shelter but he has been eating non kitten food (Sainsbury’s fine flakes) and would like to wean him into kitten food. Preferably something easily available (eg supermarket or pets at home) rather than online at the moment.

Tia

Mine eats 1 pouch of Royal Canin Kitten a day (half in morning and other half at night) and has Applaws dry food down all the time. I’ve heard Royal Canin isn’t great but at the moment it’s the only one he’ll eat. He came on felix but wouldn’t eat that, I tried a grain free one and the smell of his poo horrific. He seems to like the RC and it seems to work well for him just now. Don’t want to stress him out by too many changes. I buy them from Zooplus but they’re bother available at Pets At Home too.

My kitten had one tin of Applaws tuna and Applaws dry kitten food. It can be bought at Pets at Home.

The James beloved wet food and applaud dry food seems to have gone down quite well :)

My kitten eats whisks, asda tiger and felix. She seems to favour felix though! She has dry food available and water changed 2x a day.

Fed my cats on supermarket food (own brand, Whiskas, Felix) for years, one of them developed fur loss and very poor dull coat. Multiple vets visits, steroid injections and medicines, to no avail. Cost a small fortune. Switched to Iams, kitty has never looked better. I’d never go back to supermarket food. Also, they eat a lot less now (I assume because of better nutritional content) so the extra cost is not as much as you might think.

My 3 cats with my ex all had whisks and go cat, all had glossy coats, bright eyes etc. Only 1 cat ever needed a vet visit! I think it's about personal preference. I think most people purchase whiskas, felix etc.

Mine are all on Millie’s Lionheart, basically because the dog is on the dog food and they brought out a cat version. It is 80% meat no cereals unlike Whiskas, you don’t need a special kitten version as it’s so high in protein. The first thing I noticed is the change in his poo when he switched over smaller and didn’t stink.

At the moment I’m going for Sainsbury’s kitten pouch in the morning, janes well beloved pouch in the evening and applaws dry available all day.

He’s done two poi’s outside the litter tray today though (well, one - I spotted him squatting suspiciously for the second and plonked him in the tray). Do I need to change the tray more than once a week? It’s non clumping pellets and I scoop all poo out straight away and as much sawdust as poss and then top up. He seems to be weeing ok in there, but not wanting to poo in there today.

The Sainsbury’s kitten food is grain free but does contain some sugars which I know is not great. Budget constraints are a bugger :(

Butchers classic is grain free and sugar free and great for a budget. Smilla from zooplus is also very reasonable and a good food

Triskaidekaphilia · 31/07/2019 22:34

When mine were kittens they had asda own brand or whatever was on offer, they always ate it and were healthy. They weren't at all picky for 3 years but recently they decided they will only eat food in gravy; their new favourite is Amazon's own brand.

Bumblenut · 31/07/2019 22:58

I’ve heard that butchers classic is good, but I’m a bit put off by the fact it comes in 400g tins meaning maybe one over two days. I had no idea how much wet cat food stinks - worse than cat poo! I quite like the fact that the pouch means there’s no lingering smell. In fact I’ve bern keeping a ‘stink factor’ list. Janes welkbeloved is coming-out best on the ones I’ve tried. Whiskas stunk to high heaven!
