How do cats know?

BlueLilyLilyBlue · 23/07/2019 03:47

My H left me last week with no real explanation. I am devastated.

As kind as my lovely friends and family are, the only thing really getting me through it are my cats. Olive (the white tortie tabby) is stuck to me like glue and letting me cry on her fur. Ingrid keeps throwing herself at my feet to be cuddled.

It is like they know. Cats are such loving companions. Not sure where I would be without them. Smile

I remember one time being in tears and my very timid boy came and sat next to me for the first time.

Sorry about your relationship, let those beautiful cats help you through.

Broken11Girl · 23/07/2019 04:02

They really do 💕 The calico (first pic) looks very like one of mine. I got my first cat after a breakup, would far rather share my hone with cats than a man GrinFlowers

I'm glad your cats are such sweet and supportive souls 😻

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/07/2019 07:59

My childhood cats were like this too! Current cat doesn’t give a furry one if I cry. As long as the food hits the bowl I can do one 🤔.

My mum has a colonoscopy yesterday. And her cat, who usually only sits on my dads knee, sat on hers three times.

carsleyladiessociety · 23/07/2019 08:28

I've got perennially cold feet. Always.
In the evening my cat comes and sits on my feet when I am led on the sofa. Which is great until its 28 degrees outside and I have a furry foot warmer plonked on my already toasty trotters.

Same cat also spent 2 days solid glued to my daughters side when she was unwell

Thanks all. Flowers It's nice to hear how cats are so thoughtful for a change rather than their normal overlord status!

Olive has also become a furry hot scarf in the warm weather and now I'm not so grateful...

My DM said the same when my father left out of the blue. The cat would snuggle up to her every night and was a great comfort while she was in pieces.

MsSquiz · 23/07/2019 14:35

One of my cats has never been a cuddly, affectionate lap cat and hated being picked up (although she would tolerate it for about a minute!)
The day I got back home after spending the night at the hospice with my DM and she died in the morning, the big softie came straight over to me, jumped in my lap and nuzzled my face. Then she jumped onto the bed with me while I napped, burrowed right in beside me.

It's why we don't deserve cats

HeyMicky · 23/07/2019 14:42

We had a timid little thing we adopted when I was a teenager to keep our first cat company. Mostly fine but not very social, didn't like to be cuddled or fussed.

We had a decorator in for a fortnight and the cat threw herself at him. Climbed up the ladder to sit next to him, chatted non-stop, on his lap the minute he sat down, smooching and purring.

Turns out his wife had recently been disabled and was now house-bound. We asked if they'd like the cat as a companion and she settled in immediately; his wife was delighted.

I often think cats are like Mary Poppins - turn up when you need them and leave when you don't.

Sorry to hear about your husband Thanks

YesQueen · 23/07/2019 14:51

Mine said mama for the first time ever the day after I had spinal surgery and had to leave him overnight. Weirdo cat Grin
He then helpfully tried to knead my stitches

Nonstopbuttmachine · 23/07/2019 15:07

My daft boy started a stunt to cheer me up when I kicked my ex-h out - he'd catch my eye then drop dramatically to the floor with a huge thud and knock the breath out of himself. He'd then peer up with one eye to check my reaction and make sure I was laughing; so weird and cute Grin

Glad your beautiful kitties are looking after you OP Flowers

Sorry to hear this OP that must be tough for you what with no explanation.

Cats definitely are a comfort and they do know, they're lovely creatures. Much misunderstood.

Ingrid & Olive have your back. Hope you can move onwards and upwards with them by your side.

Saidie008 · 24/07/2019 15:29

I don't think cats get enough credit for their perception. My cat was a 'macho' male, he was the the most intuitive cat ever. He saw my son and nephew through their troubled teens into manhood. My son refused to have anything to do with anyone for a good few years, Whitesox did not leave his side until this phase passed. Nephew had a meltdown and refused to come out of his room. Whitesox stationed himself outside his door and did not move until he came out. When he wasn't needed to be a 'crisis counsellor' he was off doing his normal cat things. I will always miss him.

Ingrid and Olive are looking out for you. Flowers

Thanks all. Flowers

I agree @Saidie008 - they are more perceptive than they get credit for. Although they are rejoicing in the fact that they can now take over the bed, so maybe it's not entirely selfless! Grin

I once had a very loud crying fit (I rarely cry) and my Ragdoll ran over from the other side of the room, leapt onto the arm of the chair next to me and then licked the tears off my cheek. She’s never licked me like that before. I adore her.

BigSexyCrimeUnit · 25/07/2019 02:53

Meant to say Flowers OP. So sorry you’re going through this, you’ll get through it, just keep going.
