8 month old Ragdoll has the vomits. Bit TMI.

My Ragdoll kitten is 8 months old. She’s fed solely on Royal Canon Kitten Second Age as recommended by our vet. It’s suitable for kittens up to 12 months, and she’s being fed as per instructions. When we first got her, she had some tummy issues (runny poos) but we quickly figured out we should be feeding little and often, and all was fine.

We’ve had a stressful couple of days. My MIL died suddenly at the weekend. When we got home from the hospital, I found a heap of what I thought was runny poo in the corner of the livingroom. It was brown and, as I was swooshing it about with kitchen towel picking it up, I noticed chunks of undigested kibble in it. I thought that maybe it was a protest poo as she had been home alone for longer than normal.

Tonight, she was in the hall and bounded in to the livingroom and made a very mournful meow. She went to the same corner where I had cleaned up the suspected poo on Saturday, and vomited. So what I picked up at the weekend wasn’t poo, it was vomit. It’s brown, like her kibble, and a bit foamy in texture.

Other than that, she’s a plague acting normally. Drinking as usual, playful, biting toes etc.

I’ve googled and have found results from “it’s normal” to “how to plan a cat funeral”. I’ll ring the vet tomorrow to get an appointment but, in the meantime, has anyone experienced similar?

I was worried that she would be a bit dehydrated from vomiting so, tonight, I added a little cooled, boiled water to her kibble but she’s very unimpressed.

She has long hair and is currently molting, but has never coughed up a hairball, and o don’t think she was trying to get one up tonight.

Am I doing the wrong thing by keeping her on a dry diet?

Royal canin isn't the best food tbh. I doubt it has much meat in it and probably contains cereals. It could be the food, could be hairballs. I would give wet food alongside the dry just to increase moisture content

Thanks @dementedpixie

Is there another food you’d recommend, and I can add it to my list to start researching?

My long haired boy cat tends to vomit his dry food up when he has a stuck hairball and eventually it comes out. It helps him if i up the wet and lower the dry in moulting season
