Cat fell out of tree - vets?

HelloJackieYouLookNice · 21/07/2019 10:40

Dcat has just fallen from a tree onto my ndn’s bins. She slipped and was hanging for a few seconds and then fell, probably about 3m. She ran home straight away and the included jumping a fence. She has eaten and drunk since coming in. I have had a good look at her, felt all her limbs and looked in her mouth. I can’t see any injury, should I get her checked over just in case?

Thanks

I wouldn't bother unless she shows signs of injury.

blackcat86 · 21/07/2019 10:44

If she's walking/moving ok and isn't in any pain then I wouldn't worry. Just keep an eye out for signs of injury or distress.

BigusBumus · 21/07/2019 10:52

Cats who fall from height usually break their jaw, as their heads are very heavy and carries on upon landing, whacking their jaw on the ground. Check her chin and jaw, although i've just realised you said she has eaten, so she's obviously fine.

Thanks. I’ve checked her mouth and can’t see any injury. She’s meant to be an indoor cat but she had other ideas Grin

Here she is as if nothing ever happened

Ahhh pretty girl Smile

Our cat fell 15 feet indoors and was fine, a bit sorry for herself and not leaping around for a day, but eating normally, etc. This is a cat who was once hit by a car and broke her pelvis so we were very concerned.

HelloJackieYouLookNice · 21/07/2019 11:21

That’s my worry - that she’s hiding an injury. We had a cat growing up that got hit by a car and got herself home with a broken pelvis Shock

I wouldn’t take her to the vet unless she starts showing signs of being hurt. Cats are pretty robust.

wowfudge · 21/07/2019 11:27

There was obviously something wrong when our cat had been hit by a car and she too had got herself home and through the cat flap. She was completely different after the indoor fall, i.e. behaved normally. A bit bruised but otherwise absolutely fine. Your cat's behaviour doesn't point to her being injured, but if you are concerned then take her to the vets.

My boy fell/jumped out of a second floor window, returned unable to put any weight on one of his hind legs. Rushed him to the vet who gave him a thorough examination and assured me it wasn't broken or dislocated and there was no ligament damage. He laid on the vet's table purring and 'smiling' while she examined him Hmm as if he was having a luxury massage. Once I got him home he made a miraculous recovery and scarpered off on all four fully working legs 😳

Aww but we love them anyway Grin

You couldn’t make it up...the other one has fallen off the windowsill this afternoon and caught her leg in the clothes dryer hanging on the radiator...she was limping so I phoned the vet who has advised us to keep an eye and we have an appointment first thing. What a day!

Is there a reason the don’t go out? Now that she’s had a taste for it....

My girl broke her leg indoors and, to this day, I still don’t know what happened. It must’ve been something very simple like falling off my bed. It was very traumatic having to keep the pot on her so I hope yours is ok tomorrow.

HelloJackieYouLookNice · 21/07/2019 20:25

We live on a main road (30mph limit, residential area). We only let them out the back when we are home and keep a close eye to make sure they stay in sight. They don’t go far, occasionally next door to wind up their dog, and dcat likes to sit on the shed roof the other side. Dcat tried to get out every time we opened the back doors so keeping her in stopped being practicable. We are in the process of fitting a higher gate from the garden to the drive so they can’t get to the front at all although neither have ever tried to get there.

And both seem fine and are eating and walking normally now so hopefully they’ve both learnt a lesson and won’t do silly things again I can dream can’t I? Grin

I think you’re fighting a losing battle on the indoor cat thing. I say that as someone who has tried and failed to cat proof my garden many times.

castlecutie · 21/07/2019 20:36

oh my god she is gorgeous 😍😍😍 cats are the best ever.

Vinorosso74 · 21/07/2019 20:36

Oh dear. Hope they're both ok.
First time our lad left the garden he hurt himself coming back. He jumped off the back wall which is 3m plus high and ran inside. He went off his food so we knew something was wrong. It must have been muscular- few days of Metacam and it healed. He now knows the more sensible way back. Cats ay?!

Nonstopbuttmachine · 21/07/2019 22:46

God, they're such little shits, hope the other one is OK OP.

My friend's cat has spent four days at the vets recovering from a poisoning, it's been hell for them both 😢 Don't want to derail your thread OP, I'll update the Skinny Cats in Greece thread x

HelloJackieYouLookNice · 22/07/2019 17:29

Both fine thanks. Although the big one got stuck in the washing basket earlier. Am I the only one with stupid cats? Grin

How is your friend’s cat doing Nonstop?
