Old cat no longer lifts tail

I took my 17 year old cat to the vets yesterday as I was concerned she was getting to the end of her life. The vet said she’s in reasonable shape for her age.

He noted that her tail wasn’t upright but I thought maybe it was just stress, however since being home I’ve noticed that her tail is never up, even when she’s being stroked and is happy.

Does anyone know what’s going on with her tail? The vet wasn’t concerned but I didn’t think to ask at the time.

Thanks

I'm afraid I don't know why - but exactly the same thing happened to my old boy Monty for his last year or so. Didn't cause him any problems but it did seem a shame - I always associate an upright tail with a happy cat Smile.

Snorg has never been able to fully lift her tail. It's bent in the middle. I presume she had an injury to it before I adopted her.

How long has her tail been like that? If its only a day or so, then she may have broken it. Our cat did that, one day my ed said that his tail was hanging down and slightly bent. It took about a week to be fully swishy again.
Our old boy is the same age as yours, and keeps looking like he might not make the night. He has hyperthyroidism and high blood pressure, which we are giving him daily pills for, but when he does things like refuse tinned sardines as he did last night, I really worry.
