Neighbour cross with my cat!

My 9 month old cat is annoying my neighbour - flattening his grass and sadly caught a bird today.

This is his first kill Sad.

I offered to get a collar that makes noises to make catching birds harder. But he wants me to keep him out of his garden.

Any suggestions?

He needs to learn the reality that cats catch things. A man on radio 4 had to admit if small birds didn’t get predated we’d be knee deep in them and he was from the rspb.

Thanks Fluffy - I tried nicely pointing that out but he wasn't having any of it!

I've ordered a collar so hopefully that will give the birds a fighting chance.

Tell him to nail some jelly to his fence, that'll stop the cats getting in.

We're a no collar household, seen too many injuries. If he doesn't want your cat in his garden then he should consider deterrents. Mums neighbour had orange scented stuff she sprayed and they didn't like it so they stayed away.

Don't put a collar on your cat! It's dangerous - too easy for it to get snagged on a branch.

Fluffycloudland77 · 10/07/2019 17:10

How much grass can a cat flatten anyway?.

I think you’ve just found out how much of a loon your neighbour is.

PenguinsCantFly · 10/07/2019 17:13

He's quite eccentric!

I'm really wary of collars - this one has a quick release...do you still think it's too risky?

I started to suggest some things that he could put in his garden to deter my cat, but he cut me off saying he shouldn't have to do anything !?! I'm guessing be just doesn't want to pay for anything.

I'll look into the spray - happy to provide it to him if the cost is the issue...

Thanks for all the responses btw - he was really unfriendly about it and upset me, so your responses have cheered me up!

@PenguinsCantFly he sounds like a miserable git, my current kitties are indoor but yours would be welcome to come and decimate the wildlife.

PenguinsCantFly · 10/07/2019 17:20

Ahh thanks @smartcar!

Personally I'd have to ignore him.
I admit I live in a very built up area so there are numerous cats and kittens visiting our garden daily, so many that it is a bit annoying. But you can't stop them. If he wants to try deterrents that's up to him.

Cats wander into and explore other people's gardens... it's just one of those things.

How about a tall length of trellis on the fence? Hopefully the dcat will get the hint.
Or give him a water pistol to squirt at it?

Summertimeatthebeach · 10/07/2019 17:23

Just tell the ndn you have given dcat a stern telling off..
Then ignore.
