Online meds and vet prescription

I've seen this mentioned a couple of times, and wondered if anyone could tell me more. It would just be for flea/tick and worming treatment; we have a large cat, and use Bravecto (covers 3 months) for the fleas/ticks and Milbemax (covers 3 months) for worming. Have seen someone on here advise to only use retailers on the government's approved list (so I'm looking at Animed, as they are). Just not quite sure how the mechanics of it works. I understand I'll need to pay for the prescription from the vet – does that cover for a year? Or any kind of time limit? Can I use the same prescription to get from different online retailers, or do I need to stick with one once I've tried one out? I'll probably stick with Animed as they do both the products I'm after, but I feel v clueless about what to ask for from vet in terms of how long the prescription will cover! We're going for the annual jags soon, so was going to get this sorted out then... Any help appreciated Smile

Just wondering if anyone had info on this...?

My vet will give it for a year at a time if I want them to, the only situation where they wouldn't want to give for a long time period is if your cat is still growing or likely to change in weight to need a different dosage (for example Advocate is for cats under 4kg and then over 4kg dose).

I've only ordered from one pharmacy so can't help with the shopping around part.

My vet actually offered to write me a prescription so we could buy them cheaper (I have four cats so it adds up!), I think it's quite common these days so don't worry about asking them.

For Flea and worm treatments I would write a prescription for a year. Prescriptions are single use so can only be used at one retailer. You could have two separate prescriptions, but expect to pay two prescription charges as opposed to one two item prescription ( which will be cheaper).

Thanks for posting this, it made me look to see how much I could save on Harry's Bravecto Plus - around £50 if the vet gives me a 12 month prescription, although they may not be happy to do that.

I used to use Animed for our old girl's insulin. I found them very efficient and never had any problems.

Excellent! Thanks so much for all the replies – I'd forgotten to check back in on this thread (DS had his last day of primary and DD her birthday, in the last two days...).

@Lonecatwithkitten, when you say it's single-use, do you mean I can only use it once but order the meds I need for the year with that use? We have a Maine Coon, so he's already 4kg+ and still growing... (1 yr 3 months at the mo, about to get his annual jags).

Yes you can use it once to order everything for a year. You can not use one bit at one pharmacy and one but at another.

@Lonecatwithkitten thanks so much, once again. xx
