What do you feed your cat?

I changed our cat’s food months ago and I’ve noticed it’s really badly affected her skin and fur. She has dandruff now and it’s all getting caught up in her long fur and giving her matting.

She’s on a diet food (recommended by the vet) as she’s really an indoor cat (her choice) and basically half sloth - she barely moves from her bed. So is a little overweight!

I was thinking raw feeding might be good for her, but know nothing about it. What do you feed your cats?

Iams vitality low fat. It's the only thing that doesn't make Cheddar projectile vomit! But it's not as good for my long haired Persians coat. I much preferred them on Royal canin Persian for this reason, micro chip feeders don't work as they aren't bright enough to figure them out so they both have to have the same!

LittleLongDog · 25/06/2019 15:17

Poor Cheddar! I haven’t tried a breed specific food before so that might be something I could try. Thanks!

I know people think Royal canin is full of crap. But Both My long haired girls did well in it. I have to give extra salmon oil now to keep their coats in good nick. It's really good for dandruff as well.

Applaws dry and a mix of Applaws wet and Blink. On that combination their fur is much softer and poo much more pleasant than on Iams, James Wellbeloved or Ava. Dcat is also vomits a lot less.

moonpiggle · 25/06/2019 22:06

Royal canin indoor 27, tried mine on allsorts and she just seemed to like this one. Its been nearly 2 yrs now and her coat is beautiful and shiny and it has stool odour control too..so no stinkers at all.

ladymalfoy · 25/06/2019 22:09

The hearts of my enemies. I chop them up obviously. The wolves and wild pigs eat the rest.

SecretNutellaFix · 25/06/2019 22:16

Our 16 year old girl is on James Wellbeloved. She's doing well on it- mostly dry and a pouch of the lamb dinner for seniors every couple of days. She gets her bowl topped up 2/3 times a day and she's happy to help herself to whatever we're eating to if it takes her fancy.

dementedpixie · 26/06/2019 08:36

Encore or thrive for dry food. Sheba fresh choice, gourmet perle, gourmet solitaire for wet food as they refuse to eat better stuff (although they have eaten encore wet a couple of times)

bellinisurge · 26/06/2019 08:41

Applaws dry with Applaws wet as snack food. Plenty of fresh water always available.
When we got her from the rescue she was on Whiskas Kitten food. She farted all the time and her poos smelled foul.
No farts now and the poo smells like poo.
Hair balls as the seasons and her coat changes.

One of mine loves the Wainwright's (Pets at Home own brand) terrine tins - the fish selection especially. The other does Sheba and Felix - not into the good stuff.

I'm still wading through different foods but my two cats wrestled a bag of Crave fish into the middle of the floor , ripped a piece out of the wrapping and helped themselves !

They like tuna as a treat

Not keen on Vets Kitchen

sweetkitty · 26/06/2019 21:34

Millie’s Lionheart dry and wet 80% meat

Bowls always topped up doesn’t stop them raiding the dogs bag of food which is stored behind the hoover as the dog is terrified of the hoover. I think they just do it to annoy the dog!

ProbablyPertunia · 26/06/2019 21:42

I feed a combination of tins from zooplus (online pet food shop) animonda carny, bozita and cosma. Ideally cats should be fed a wet food only diet and the ones I buy are great quality for the cost!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 27/06/2019 07:01

Harry has James Wellbeloved senior turkey pouches and also their dry food, preferably turkey although he will eat fish at a push.

He has the pouches for breakfast and dinner and biscuits for lunch and supper, although we do give him dry more often in the summer if it's hot which makes him a happy cat!

mollpop · 29/06/2019 07:27

I've tried all the expensive, high quality foods but she won't eat anything except Whiskas. I know it's not great food but she loves it

cherryblossomgin · 29/06/2019 07:44

My cat is fussy and will only eat Felix as good as it looks with extra gravy or the aldi one in the gold tin. She likes Crave biscuits or the Aldi ones.

I have tried all the expensive ones but she isn't interested. She liked applaws for one day then the next day refused to eat it. I feel like a bad cat owner because she likes cheap food. She gets 2 pouches a day and a small bowl of biscuits to have if she is hungry. Then her dreamies before bed, we started that when she was a kitten to let her know its bed time.

sleepingcats · 29/06/2019 09:36

I feed mine Applaws/Encore dry and wet. Tried lots of different brands but this is the best one that they will consistently eat!

hipstercat · 29/06/2019 09:50

Only dry food as it's much better for their teeth, Purina One usually. The occasional tin of pate as a treat but they're not that into it.

LittleLongDog · 29/06/2019 10:05

I don’t feed her wet food often as the vet said it was contributing to her teeth being bad.

I’ve got some True Instinct that I’m going to try now. It’s high protein biscuits mixed with freeze dried raw meat and hopefully will be good.

I’m contemplating getting some salmon oil from amazon or somewhere to see if it helps her skin if just changing her food doesn’t.

My old boy (17) who used to eat anything is now on a mix of dry (Purina One turkey as it's the only one he will eat and not bolt it and vomit!), all sorts of decent and not very decent wet food (every meal must taste different Hmm) and raw, usually turkey thigh mince, but sometimes chicken wings or random bits of what I'm cooking.

madcatladyforever · 29/06/2019 11:01

My cat is 18 and has colitis and gets massive shits if I feed her any low quality food so she gets Lilys kitchen which costs more than my food.

Dontgiveamonkeys1350 · 29/06/2019 17:49

Mine is on Lily’s kitchen. He is a really really really fussy cat. But he eats this
