Dead fleas...going on for ages!

I started another thread but can't find it,so here's anotherHmm

A couple of weeks ago I realised there were fleas in a crack by the back door, sun hits it and it's lovely and warm there. Yuck.

Every morning there were fleas in cat's water bowl so treated with Indorex really thoroughly all through the house. Cat has nothing on him and we weren't bitten, they just seemed to be around this crack by the back door.

A couple of weeks on and I'm STILL finding dead fleas every morning, literally crawling out of the woodwork.

Nothing live, they're all dead or so nearly dead they can't move so Indorex is clearly working.

Seriously though, I'm wondering when it'll stop, every flipping morning!! Should I be doing anything else?

How odd. Are you sure it’s a cat flea?.

LoafofSellotape · 24/06/2019 23:37

What else could it be? Not actually sure I want to know the answer...😱

I’m sure indorex usually kills eggs and larvae though. It’s really toxic stuff.

Wolfiefan · 25/06/2019 09:21

Any chance you have a stray visitor who is coming to the garden and depositing fresh fleas each night?

Wolfiefan · 25/06/2019 09:21

Oh and do you treat cat and if so what with?

Inforthelonghaul · 25/06/2019 09:25

Are you sure they’re not storm bugs (also known as corn thrips, thunder flies or corn fleas)? They’re tiny black insects and as I always have windows and back door open I’m always finding them on the floor and windowsills at this time of year.

LittleLongDog · 25/06/2019 09:26

They must have laid eggs that are now hatching. It might take a while for them all to hatch and be killed off.

What are you using on your cat? If it’s something good then he will also be a walking flea killing machine, which will help. Have you found any flea dirt when you brush him?

HardAsSnails · 25/06/2019 09:29

Are you sure they're fleas?

In decades of cat and dog keeping I've never known fleas behave like that.

LoafofSellotape · 25/06/2019 13:30

I typed out a long post and lost it🙄

99% sure they're fleas. I know storm bugs and they aren't them.

Cat is treated religiously with Advocate, none on him and no flea dirt, easy to see as his bottom layer of fur is white. I also comb him daily and not found any fleas.

They all seem to be dead or nearly dead and all near the crack in the door, they must be having a real party down there! I sprayed loads of Indorex down there so maybe it's just taking a while to see them off completely.

No one in the house has been bitten and usually anything like that seeks me out.

LittleLongDog I think you're right

Having had various flea infestations over the last 40 years of cat keeping, I've never found a flea in a cat's water bowl. I'm another doubting whether these are fleas.

LoafofSellotape · 25/06/2019 14:15

Lots on line about them in water bowls,I wouldn't Google unless you have a strong stomach!

No fleas getting into the water now, that's stopped so that's an improvement.

OP posts:
LoafofSellotape · 25/06/2019 14:23

Just did a big Google search just in case they're something else, they're definitely fleasEnvy

OP posts:
LittleLongDog · 25/06/2019 15:14

Grim! Hopefully you’ll be rid of them soon.

Are there any other animals near the infested area that could be the source? We had pigeons on an outside window sill once that ended up nesting and you could see the fleas jumping out of their nest.

LoafofSellotape · 25/06/2019 16:30

Pigeons have fleas? Dear God!!!

No, just our cat ,he does scrap with the big boys though so I expect he brought them in and they multiplied fast as it's so nice and warm on the back door crack. That's getting filled in this weekend!

LoafofSellotape · 30/06/2019 12:07

Arghhhhh! So I thought that was it but woke up this morning and there were 4 dead ones on the kitchen floor by the crack- at lest they were dead! Gave it another spray of Indorex just to be sure, can't believe how long they're taking to go. There must have been loads down this crack.Shock

UPDATE

The OP here,NC. So nothing and I've been away and so obviously not been hoovering and just looked by the back door and there were about 20 dead fleas. Exactly the same place as before. At least they were all dead. FFS!!

I've just got the indorex out and sprayed AGAIN. Checked dcat and there is NOTHING on him, I went over him with a flea comb for ages.

I might just chuck my door mat out.

FunkySnidge · 14/09/2019 07:21

Hoover hoover hoover

Dontgiveamonkeys1350 · 15/09/2019 06:57

Have u put ur heating on? I thought I got rid of mine but then the heating when on the buggers came out again. They hide in the radiators

MrsPellegrinoPetrichor · 15/09/2019 19:13

No heating but was away over the weekend, came home and the whole corner near the door was COVERED with dead fleas. So over night about 70 of the fuckers must've hatched out but they were all dead. Gets really warm by the door. At least they are dead so the Indorex is working!

I have hoovered like my life depended on it and had another spray of Indorex!

Weedsnseeds1 · 17/09/2019 09:09

Stick some diatomaceous earth in the crack and scatter around the area. Works wonders

MrsPellegrinoPetrichor · 17/09/2019 10:05

Weedsnseeds

Of course!!! Thank you,I have heard of this stuff, can I get it on line? Won't hurt the cat, will it?

In desperation yesterday I put sellotape over the crackGrin

At least they are all nearly dead when they crawl out,not a jumper among all of them so at least the Indorex is working.

MrsPellegrinoPetrichor · 17/09/2019 10:08

Just ordered some, will keep everything crossed it works 🤞

Weedsnseeds1 · 18/09/2019 06:58

No it won't hurt the cat, it's harmless to mammals. Good luck!

MrsPellegrinoPetrichor · 18/09/2019 07:06

Thanks !
