Kitten blues...

Baddabingbaddaboom · 21/06/2019 22:26

OK firstly I just want to say that I love the kitten, I would never mis treat the kitten and yes I knew what to expect as I've had kittens before...

But...

I'm so sick of the fucking kitten! The biting, scratching, my 4 year old moaning about her CONSTANTLY, climbing shit I can deal with, I can deal with the ringworm she's given all of us, getting me up at all hours and even the pee..

But all together it's really starting to wear me down, she so wants to go outside all hours and in a few weeks ish after she's chipped, neutered, jabbed etc, she can and I can't bloody wait.

I know this will pass and I feel a bit better already but fuck me sideways kittens are a pain in fat bulbous ass!

Are you sure she can go outside in a few weeks?

She looks tiny in that picture... 8/10 weeks? Is it recent?

Neutering doesn't happen until they are c. 5-6 months.

Baddabingbaddaboom · 21/06/2019 22:35

She's 13 weeks she can be neutered in 3 weeks. That picture was 2 weeks ago

I'm afraid you have made a basic error. You didn't get two kittens.
She's gorgeous btw Grin

GiantKitten · 21/06/2019 22:37

Vets are neutering at c 4 months now as long as kitten is big enough.

She will grow out of all that, OP. Bad luck about the ringworm though.

Baddabingbaddaboom · 21/06/2019 22:39

Oh I have another cat, she's 5 but acts like a kitten... They're fine together but older cat wants to play with her outside all the time and little cat tries to escape out of the garden so she has to be constantly supervised... Which older cat hates. She tells me so... Hmm

The ringworm is horrendous, dd and dp have one tiny patch each and I'm up to 27 and on super strength shit Confused

I personally would let a kitten out until 8 months. This stage will end, they are like a toddler at this age, full of energy and no common sense.

Vinorosso74 · 21/06/2019 22:43

Erm ringworm??? Is everyone being treated? Where did she come from as they need to be aware?

Baddabingbaddaboom · 21/06/2019 22:45

Yes we're all being treated and yes they are aware.

My latest cat Ellie could be a nightmare as a kitten. Burrowing under bed covers. Biting my feet. Swinging on the bedroom (new) curtains at 5 am then charging around the room. This was at 7 months when i got her.
After neutering she could go out so she burnt a lot of energy in the garden.
Shes now 2 and a joy to have. Calm, loving, very attached to me and sleeps with me.
Kittens can be a right pain but they soon settle down

Vinorosso74 · 21/06/2019 23:12

Just checking as it can be a bugger to eliminate in rescue centres

Baddabingbaddaboom · 22/06/2019 00:07

Sorry if I sounded a little short, it's just been a stressful day! I'll attach another picture of the now calmed down cutey

A spray bottle with some water might sort out some of the climbing on curtains, at least while she knows you are looking.

Also a kitten harness and taking her out on a lead could help get rid of some energy.

Fluffycloudland77 · 22/06/2019 08:22

Mine was the same, minus the ringworm though. I am over kittens now.

I wouldn’t let her out until 5-6 months though as their still snack sized until then.

I’d lock them in the kitchen overnight and get some sleep. Ours was in the kitchen from day one (he cried for a bit) with the french doors wedged tight with folded card because he figured out quite quickly that if you sit down and push the doors with your paw they bang loudly and the humans get up. It was devastatingly effective.

Toddlerteaplease · 22/06/2019 09:25

I think you should send her to me.

KittekatMP · 22/06/2019 10:03

@Baddabingbaddaboom I have a 13 week old who looks just like your kitten OP! You didn’t get her from a town starting with W did you?!

Ours is gorgeous yet mad! Lovely but a pain in the backside too! I work from home but he has definitely reduced my efficiency massively. Like you we have an older cat M who is nearly 5, ours still need some supervision together though. M doesn’t hiss at kitten P just for being there but she does not like it when he constantly follows her and pounces on her. He is just so desperate to play. I really hope the time comes when they will play together, fingers are crossed tightly

Our kitten P is being neutered at 16 weeks but we don’t plan to let him out until after we go on holiday as him and M are going to a cattery for a couple of weeks in August so we’ll keep him in until then. He would love to go out though.

Photos are him on my computer tower where he sits calmly under my desk for a few minutes before randomly attacking me! And of him and M looking out the window! We have a microchip catflap so she can go out but he can’t yet. We don’t let them together in the kitchen unsupervised though in case he follows her through!

@kittekatMP

Wow yours are beautiful! No not from a town beginning with w but funny we have 2 cats basically the same age that look alike Grin

My 5 year old is temperamental at best, she prefers other cats to humans but she's still not keen on sharing me. Kitten certainly has had a few smacks from her but said kitten is mental and like yours jumps on her constantly! It's funny when older cat gets moody with me through the window because I won't let little cat out though haha!

I love the cat to pieces but I'm so glad the baby stage is short

Thanks Baddabingbaddaboom.

I have just been getting adverts for feliway friends at the bottom of the page so have just ordered one to give it a go. M just about tolerates P in limited doses, she loves it when he gets put back in his room and she knows she won’t get pounced on!

We have booked them into the same pen at the cattery in August as the cattery owner said it’s best to do that unless they really hate each other. I am nervously hoping all will be ok.

HelloJackieYouLookNice · 22/06/2019 11:15

Ours is 7 months and starting to calm down a bit. She no longer nibbles my toes or pats my face for playtime at 5am...she does however still try to attack anyone climbing up the stairs and leaps on sleeping dcat for wrestling at bedtime. We let her out under close supervision but it was dcat who misjudged a jump yesterday and fell off next doors shed roof so I was obviously supervising the wrong cat Grin

Baddabingbaddaboom · 22/06/2019 11:36

@KittekatMP I'm sure it'll be a good bonding experience for them both, if being stuck somewhere they both don't know doesn't make them be glad for each other then I don't know what will!

@HelloJackieYouLookNice haha! Cats are so accident prone!

OP posts:
viccat · 23/06/2019 23:43

She shouldn't be outside at all at that age, certainly not before neutering. And even after not really unsupervised for several months yet, as you can tell they are crazy and certainly not savvy enough to keep themselves safe until much later.
