Missing Bengal cat

Our beautiful cat has gone missing! It's been days now. We're all so sad 😢.

I've put up posters in the immediate area and have put him on all Facebook pages I can think of. Couple of problems though:

He is microchipped but I can't find any of his paperwork so I don't know if the chip has been registered. I've contacted the lady we got him from but she hasn't got back to me yet.

We are pretty rural. Couple of miles from nearest village. We back onto private farm/military land at the back and forest at the front. Only 2 neighbours (who haven't seen him).

The breeder advised against us having him as an outdoor cat. She was worried people may steal him. He is a beautiful Bengal with lovely markings. Do people steal cats though? Stupid thing is I'd pay a lot of money to get him back. Much more than surely any would get selling him. He disappeared during the night so unlikely someone took him then but may have done since I guess.

Just gutted. I've tried a few tricks - emptied hoover bag outside back etc. Any other advice? Thanks so much

Litter tray outside?
Does the vet have the chip details on their records?
Post on local FB groups.
Contact vets and rescues.

Thank you! No litter tray as he's an outdoor cat. Good idea about the vet - I'll try.

Cats should have one for emergencies and should stay in at night.
Could he be shut in a shed?
Does he wear a collar?
One of mine keeps getting shut in garages etc. I am to be found stalking the neighbourhood in the evening calling her name and shaking the dreamies. Blush

Can you remember which chip company it was?.

UnsinkableRubberDuck · 17/06/2019 20:45

No I can't remember which chip company it was. I'm kicking myself I can't find the paperwork.
Can I ask, do offers of financial reward work? If I say e.g. reward of £100 for safe return - does that make any difference (assume this only works if someone has taken him in).

I would call your local council as worse case of him being run over they may have uplifted him. Also look for your local Harvey’s Army they have volunteer scanners for found pets, try Cats Protection, RSPCA. Would your vet have scanned him and made a note of chip ?

Fluffycloudland77 · 17/06/2019 20:51

It’s worth a shot. Does he mind being picked up though? Ours moans if we do it god knows what he’d do if a stranger picked him up.

I’d go out late at night with a torch and call him again. If he’s there his eyes will reflect back in the light. If your rural there will be 3 million rabbits too.

You can hire pet detectives.

Mia184 · 18/06/2019 09:12

Have you tried walking in your area in the late evening calling out for him and shaking some treats he likes?

Scorpvenus1 · 18/06/2019 12:21

Are you anywhere near to Berkshire as had a dodgy person trying to hard sell me one last week, and was very dodgy in the way it was put across.

Minkies11 · 18/06/2019 12:26

My bengal disappeared recently - he is wary and skittish around strangers. Couldn't believe it when nearly 2 days later he is found hiding in a neighbours spare room under a cabinet. Totally silent and didn't make any mess! I'd check with neighbours again . Also - does he like climbing trees? They can roam for bloody miles at night......

As you don't know about the chip to be able to register him as missing, contact all vet's and cat rescues in your area with a couple of good photos of him and report him as missing to them. That way, if he's found and taken in by a vet practice or a charity, they'll know you're looking for him.

Search late at night when it's quiet. You have a better chance of hearing him if he's trapped or shut in somewhere. You can also try searching (again late when it's quiet) by standing/sitting in one place near home calling him, if he's got lost it may help him hear you and find his way back easier than if you're walking around calling for him.

People do steal cats but if you're in a fairly isolated area I think it's less likely (since there's presumably not that many people walking past your house who could have seen him?).

Likely he could be shut in somewhere....are you able to access the outbuildings? Or get permission?
