Leaving very "bonded" cat while I holiday

My rescued boy is devoted to me. It's just him and me living here. He goes for walks with me and whines if I tell him to go out by himself. He sleeps with me, whether that's a sofa snooze or night in bed. Etc.

I want to have a 4 day break and I have met and appointed a cat sitter who will come twice a day - he seemed to like her.

My question is, will my cat leave home if I leave the cat flap open while I'm away or should I close it and revert to litter trays?

We use litter trays but more for fear that they would get run over and that would not be a good end to a holiday.

For 4 days I'd be inclined to leave him inside.
You'll know he is safe and it isn't too long for him to be on his own.

What a gorgeous boy!
I agree with the others and would also leave him indoors.

Yes it's much safer to keep cats in while you go away. For many reasons really... If something did happen outdoors, no one would know for potentially nearly 24 hours. Cats are also more likely to wander far from home when no one is around to come home to. And at least keeping them indoors means the cat sitter will see them daily; I've done catsits for people who leave the cat flap open and haven't seen the cat for several days because they were always out!

Definitely, my Dad's cat used to go looking for him when he was out, and if you're is very bonded he may do the same

Your boy is lovely! Definitely keep in him. Also, leave something with your smell on for him, e.g. your dressing gown on the bed, so he has something to curl up with if he's pining. And be prepared to suffer the Wrath of Cat when you return!

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 16/06/2019 17:13

I would def keep him in.
This is definitely a better safe than sorry scenario...
4 days is nothing

what a lovely boy.

RandomMess · 16/06/2019 17:18

Be warned you may get a 24/48 hour sulk on your return but he'll forgive you soon enough!

That's so Helpful thanks - in it is. I'd hate to think of him looking for me and getting lost.

Cat wrath!!

And thanks for noting how gorgeous he is :)

I was gone not 2 days and mine broke the catflap to go looking for me. Sad but definitely keep him in !
