Why is my cat shitting outside my bedroom door?

It's getting very frustrating! I've just been woken by the sound of her scratting at the Capet, opened the door to find yet another steaming turd right outside the door and a puddle of wee in the corner.

At least once every two weeks, she does this, and I'm getting so pissed off about it. No explanation!

She's been to the vets to rule anything out. That was a nice waste of money.
She has fresh litter
She can get outside

I've used pet neutraliser/lemon juice/pepper where she goes, doesn't make a difference.

Short of reforming her, I don't know what to do!

Stop shutting her out the bedroom. She wants to be your furry hot water bottle

ALemonyPea · 07/06/2019 05:51

No she's definitely not sleeping in my room as she was weeing on the bed. She can sleep with the DC though and doesn't do anything outside or in their rooms.

How old is she OP?

ALemonyPea · 07/06/2019 06:04

She's only 4, so not an old girl. She is very loving, she's a teeny tiny dot, I love her but the crapping right outside my door is getting very frustrating. I'm a light sleeper and the slightest noise, I am there seeing if it's her.

I can't lock her downstairs as it's not possible, as that would Probably solve it all.

Put a litter tray there for her to use instead? Cats should have more than one to use anyway.

Fluffycloudland77 · 07/06/2019 06:33

How many trays have you got and which litter?.

KatherineJaneway · 07/06/2019 06:35

How many trays does she have? One cat needs two trays and they must be kept clean or a cat will likely poo elsewhere.

needsleepzzz · 07/06/2019 06:38

Feliway? Helps mine when i go on holiday as they used to poo all over the kitchen Angry (they stay home and are visited daily by a friend)
Could be stressed, maybe another cat outside after her territory?

Iwantacookie · 07/06/2019 06:38

Is there a room you could lock her in?
Can you put a litter tray in the spot she's going?
Try cleaning with vinegar you need to get rid of the cat smell so she doesn't think that's her toilet.
I get it's annoying. I have one that sticks her arse over the side of the litter tray to shit (and still manages to scoop cat litter out everywhere)

Hoggytat · 07/06/2019 06:53

Is her litter tray near the cat flap? If another cat is coming in that could make really anxious. If it's a covered tray near the cat flap she may also be anxious about being blocked in by the other cat.

If it is the case get a cat flap that reads the microchip. Also put a litter tray upstairs.

Put trays where the cat poops too. Cheap open tray with no litter. At least it will catch the pooping.

It's so annoting. My cat has been doing this for 18 years. None of my other cats ever have. But she was diagnosed in the last two years with the cats version ofor chrones disease which the vet thinks she has always had. Luckily I can shut her into the kitchen diner at night which is when she does it. She is ok in the day as she is not sleepy then. I'm not sure what I would have done had I not been able to shut her off in the kitchen where she has a nice cosy bed and a cat flap.

GarthFunkel · 07/06/2019 07:11

Because she can.

Somehow you are not fulfilling your obligations, if there's no medical reason it's purely a fuck you.

crazycatlady7 · 07/06/2019 07:17

I had the same issue with my youngest cat- it took a while to find litter she likes, she won't go outside so have to have a tray.

I tried placing the tray where she wanted and this didn't work. I took the hoods off and this has helped.

I then locked her in a room with her tray for about a week so she had no access to anywhere else and litter trained her again, praised her every time she used the tray. After a week she was allowed in the rest of the house supervised. And after about 2-3 weeks we had resolved it. (And replaced carpets)

It really was the hardest thing I've done as I felt so cruel banning her from the house but it did work. We have the odd accident but we usually know why- litter tray not up to her standards... or locked out from the trays, or she's been unsettled by another cat/noise.

madcatladyforever · 07/06/2019 07:19

Great idea crazycatlady.

ALemonyPea · 07/06/2019 07:28

We use catsan. She rarely uses the litter tray, I clean it as soon as she does.

We put a litter tray where she was doing it, she shit a few foot away from it. Tried both open and closed trays.

Litter tray is in the kitchen, dogs sleep in the kitchen so I'm sure no other cat is coming in. Dogs also not stopping her coming into the kitchen as I thought that might have been the issue. There is a horrible cat that knocks around, so she might be scared going outside, but then she has the littler tray.

I don't have a room I can shut her away in and train her again unfortunately, but appreciate the advice.

It is probably a "fuck you for kicking me out your room"

Vet did blood, poo and urine sample tests to see if there was anything, there was nothing other than a pricey vet bill.

Would I put the Feliway near our room or in the kitchen?

OP posts:
Fluffycloudland77 · 07/06/2019 07:44

Have you tried sanicat gold? Catsan can be a bit rough on their paws. It could be as simple as she doesn’t like treading on the litter.

BWcastle2000 · 07/06/2019 08:08

Is her tray near where she eats? The tray should not be near her feeding area.

adaline · 07/06/2019 08:21

My cats hated catsan litter - we use wood chip now which is more natural for them. They also won't go to the toilet in the same room as the dog.

I would move her tray well away from the kitchen and the dogs, and have a go at changing her litter as well.

If there isn't a medical problem then it suggests her behaviour is environmental.

Poppiesway1 · 07/06/2019 08:26

Oh ALemonyPea I’m sorry.. your title made me laugh.
I have no answer but every sympathy!!
My dog likes to cock his leg up one particular door frame in my house!! Even when the back door is open and we’re all here.. why????? Wine

ALemonyPea · 07/06/2019 11:26

I don't think it's the litter we tried several when she was a kitten and catsan was her preferred one. I'll try changing it to the good one.

Tray not near food, and it can't be placed anywhere else.

Going to give the felway a go.

Try a really deep wide tray. Ours digs for England when he’s in there.
