Looks like our male cat has this ,we're booked in for a million pound ( £275) consultation with an expert .

But I don't know why really ,if it 's confirmed ( and I can't think it's anything else ) we won't be able to afford the cost of surgery ( graft ) or aftercare . Although my sweet soft hearted son is keen to explore ( and pay for ) every avenue .

It's bound to be back to our vet and surgery to remove the eye .

In the meantime I'm watching for any change in shape of his eye and imagining our lovely cat will manage with only one eye .

it just sounds so disfiguring and I'm sad and feeling a bit and that I must have missed it's onset/early signs .

If he does end up losing an eye he will be absolutely fine. A previous cat of mine lost an eye when he was about 6 or 7 - it didn't seem to cause him any problems at all, he still had access outside, and he lived to 17. And it isn't disfiguring at all - I always thought it made him look rather dashing Smile.

A friend of my cats lost his eye in a car accident. He's fine. Agreed that it makes him look rather dashing!

Thank you both for posting and for the picture GOPWC - you're user name describes me v well !

It's reassuring to see a photo .Can I ask ,do they sew the eyelid shut over the ummm cavity ?

With him the vet told me they removed the eyelid and then sewed up the skin.
I assume that is standard practice but vets here could advise?

Toddlerteaplease · 05/06/2019 22:17

My friends cats eye was completely sewn up.

Hi Peridito, any updates on what you decided in the end?

My exotic shorthair had the same thing just a few months ago....£275 for a consultation followed by a £3800 operation to graft over his poorly eye and remove the sequestrum! 🙁 luckily we were insured and my kitty made a full recovery but two months down the line and it looks like it’s happened to the other eye and the last operation has maxed out our insurance limit so we’re a little anxious right now about what we can do!
Sad

Would love to hear how you got on? Hoping your cat is much better now Flowers

Any chance of a pic. I love Exotics, and Cheddar was very disappointed that no other Exotics appeared on her recent post about them.

@peridito Here is our boy 😊 the last is with his poorly the at the moment, waiting on his appointment later in the week to find out if it is a sequestrum causing ulcers 🙁 poor thing

@HootyTooty hi sorry not to have updated .

We did have the eye out and he recovered well and quickly . He's fine ,still v purry .Does jump a little when unexpecetdly approached but perhaps he's a little deaf .

When we had the consultation the vet did say that there were two different ops for condition ,one sounded more complicated .

What day is your consultation ? I will send as many postive vibes your way as I can !
