Fleas in water bowl,really odd

Cat is treated with Advocate every month and I go over him with a flea comb most nights as he loves being groomed.

No sign of fleas or dirt at all but for the last week or so I've found fleas in his water bowl.

No one is being bitten, cat isn't scratching.

Where the hell are they coming from ? I only put the water bowl down as that's what you're meant to do,he never drinks out of it as he prefers the bird bath in the garden HmmGrin

Where is the bowl? Is it near an open door? Could they be coming in of their own accord (or with the cat) and then ending up in the water bowl before biting anyone

LoafofSellotape · 29/05/2019 12:03

Yes it's by the back door,I'll move it and see if it continues.

Treat the house x

I have hard flooring in all rooms except the bedroom. Does this mean the Advocate isn't working?

Hmm.....they do become resistant, so maybe. But you might have dormant eggs that have been down the cracks/underneath floorboards that have hatched.

I would spray house and switch up Advocate

Will do!

Lifted the door mat and there is a crack by the door and there was loads there! None jumpy ,all dozy and half dead so the Advocate must be working. I've hoovered, mopped and Indorexed everything in sight downstairs and will do upstairs tomorrow.

Yuck!

Fleas are attracted to light and to the colours red and black. (I'm not a flea expert I just googled it). So maybe they are attracted to the colour of the water bowl?

LoafofSellotape · 29/05/2019 21:17

It's a white and blue bowl.

Let's hope the Indorex does the trick!

The same thing is happening at my house! I noticed a bunch of little bugs in her water bowl. Upon closer inspection they were fleas! I emptied it and today there are more! I don’t see fleas on her but she is losing her fur, but only in the places she can reach. Both her and my dog have been itching but not excessively. I treat the dog monthly but hadn’t been treating the cat because I didn’t think she needed it. What did you find out?

MareZDotes · 30/03/2025 13:58

Follow-up, my cat’s bowl is in a second floor bathroom, nowhere near an outside source. I have had no fleas on myself nor have I been bit

ClaireEclair · 31/03/2025 08:46

Are you sure they are fleas? I spotted a little bug in our cat's bowl and started panicking. It was a springtail.

MareZDotes · 31/03/2025 12:21

They are absolutely fleas
