Bald patch caused by collar slipping

Hi can anyone help ? Cats collar slipped and got wrapped under his front leg, could have been like this for as long as a whole night and half a day before I saw him !

2 days after sorting it I noticed an area under his leg where the hair is missing and skin possibly a bit red ? Otherwise he is walking fine and eating well and no other signs of distress !

Does he need to see a vet ?

This is why I don't use collars! If it's pink but not red and the skin isn't broken then I'd just monitor it. If it didn't improve or got worse then I'd see a vet

I agree with pixie. If the skin isn't broken then just leave it and monitor. And don't use a collar again. I've seen countless cats lose a leg because of this, and many that we don't find in time (they have probably become lost) die from the infected wound. Others get trapped or hung by their collars. Collars are always a bad idea.

Bathe in saltwater and monitor. I wouldn’t bother with a collar again either.

Thanks I had no idea collars could cause such problems !

I was thinking of getting some of the skin first aid products from pets at home to help soothe and heal ??

Also worried that he keeps licking the area - should he have a collar ?

I really don't know about over the counter cat first aid products. It may be worth a try (but only if they are specifically formulated for cats). I don't know. See how it goes for a few days I think. Cats hate wearing cones so I would only use one if absolutely necessary, which I don't think is the case if the skin still isn't broken.
