Advice for neutered cat

I had my 6 month old kitten spayed yesterday and I'm struggling to get her to eat with her buster collar on. Only thing that's working so far is hand feeding her dry food. She usually has 3 meals of wet food a day along with her dry food but due to the collar she can't get into her wet food (I will hand feed this if need be but would rather find an easier way Envy).

Tried taking the collar off for mealtimes but she is trying to bite her stitches so had to put it straight back on.

I can't afford one of those suits you can buy but am seriously considering trying to fashion something out of a baby grow 🤔

If anyone has any tips on how to make things easier for her I'd be very grateful.

I would try the babygrow thing. I did buy one of the suits for my cat when he had an abcess on his back - I bought it from the vet

She may still be a little off her food after the anaesthetic.

My late girl cat got the hang of eating with her collar on after spaying - it just needed wiping afterwards.

Wait a day or so and see if she can manage before investing in a feline baby-grow - I've heard that cats are very good at getting out of those anyway!

Maybe try raising the bowls a few inches, especially if there is room for the bottom of the cone to slide underneath.

I love that GrinGrin

I don't think she's off her food as she seems to be scoffing the dry food from my hand. I will try raising her bowls and hopefully that will help, I only just realised this morning I bought food in gravy instead of jelly which is what she usually has so I don't think that will be helping.

Thanks everyone.

They usually figure it out after a few attempts but you can help by guiding her to the bowl so that the bottom edge of the cone is outside the bowl so she can get her mouth/face where the food is. Or hold the bowl up a bit up to her face.

I'm not going to offer any help but please video yourself getting your cat into a babygro if you go down that route 😂😂

PivotPivotPivottt · 25/05/2019 19:53

viccat thanks I've just found her drinking from her water bowl so that's put my mind at rest. She's ate some dry food today so will pick up some food in jelly tomorrow as think the gravy is part of the reason she's not even attempting to eat her wet food.

SoupDragon Grin I'm hoping it will be a last resort as trying to get the collar back on her was a mission, I dread to think of the baby grow!
