First time here have had much loved 13 year old cat put down I'm in bits as she had kidney failure and I had not noticed how much wait she had lost and how ill she was until it was to late feel awful as I'm with her all the time I just didn't see how much she had changed other family members kept saying she looked so skinny is she ok just thought it was old age as she still eating and drinking cuddled her with my son as they put her to sleep she adored him he got straight on the train from London as soon as I told him so he could be with her just walked away from work as a lawyer begging me to wait until he was there feel like I let her down so badly been so busy lately anyone else felt like this and been so bloody useless

One of my cats had serious heart disease and I put her weight loss down to that. Took her to the vet for something else and the suggested that they do bloods, that I realised it wasn't her heart. It was her kidneys. Suddenly realised why she'd been peeing In The hall and hiding in corners which wasn't like her. I had her PTS the next day, as soon as the blood came back.
Don't beat yourself up. They cover it up very well.

It wasn't Until I compared pictures that the cattery had taken, that I realised how terrible she actually looked.

Cats are really good at hiding their illnesses.
My 12 year old half pedigree had acute cardiomyopathy and I had no idea, he had been a bit quiet and gone off his food, lost weight etc, I took him to the vets a couple of times and they said he was ok, then he suddenly had breathing problems and long story short treatment did nothing and he died before the vet could come and put him to sleep.
I was devastated, I have pet insurance and always took them regularly to the vet and spent a lot of time everyday playing with him and being with him but I didn't know he had a terminal illness.
Weight loss is insidious, you might not notice if it happens over a long period.

So sorry you lost your lovely cat, you did the right thing to let them go. Cats are natural maskers of illness so try not to feel guilty. Remember them fondly.

@madcatladyforever Fatty had cardiomyopathy. Her heart was In terrible shape but she never showed any symptoms. She was her normal diva-like self right up
Until her kidneys failed. Humans would have been on the transplant list and bed bound!
