Poorly cat...get seen asap or wait until end of day?

Two cats, one is fine.

Tiny Cat is most definitely not herself. She part Bengal and usually leaps up to greet us in the morning, goes demented at the cat tree, does a few circuits of the the living then gets under my feet/pogoes up and down on the worktop while I get their food.

This morning she was sat like a little egg on the sofa when DD came down. Didn't move until I emerged 20 minutes later, keeps just sitting down, is only vaguely interested in the idea of food but not eating (I managed to get her to eat a single dreamy...normally I'd lose an arm when I get them out, sniffed her usual cat food then wandered off).

She's used her tray will I was in the room and her poo was very dark and a kind of stringy liquid consistency.

They are indoor cats and she was fine last night.

I'll be leaving for work in 20 minutes and not back until 5pm so worried about leaving her all day. My employer will not be amused at me having to take time out of the working day to take her to the vets, but if I have to, so be it.

Any suggestions? Honestly I'm loathe to wait until this evening to get her an appointment but not sure if I'm panicking.

Take her to the vet, she doesn't sound well.

ScreamingValenta · 15/05/2019 07:33

I would be on the safe side and take her in straight away. Can you offer to make up the time you miss at work? She doesn't sound well - I just wouldn't want to risk leaving her all day in case her condition deteriorates.

Hoping she is OK Flowers.

That's my gut feeling too. I'll make up the time at work but will no doubt still get a frosty reception.

Hey ho.

Vet thinks she has a gastrointestinal virus, she had a high temperature and he thought her poo may have blood in but was no sign of anything on thermometer.

She had an injection to reduce her temperature, and said if shes not improving be tomorrow late afternoon to bring her back in as she may need rehydrating.

I dropped her home and got my mum to check in on her. She has attempted to eat and drink but been sick twice this afternoon.

On the upside she seems slightly less lethargic since I've got in. Not sure what to do with her this evening. Am thinking will have my dinner and bath them take her upstairs in my room with me, put down a fresh litter tray and some fresh cooked chicken & rice with a small dish of kitten milk (vet said that was ok), and then I can monitor her overnight.

Does that sound like a plan? We've only had them a year next week so havent had to deal with illness yet.

Yes, that sounds like a good plan. Keep an eye on what she is drinking and whether she's weeing. If it's a virus, keeping her temp down and making sure she is hydrated are the best things you can do. It's good that she's not as lethargic as she was earlier. Keep her close to you as your presence will comfort her.

I really wish I'd just phoned in sick today. I have no idea how I'm going to get her to the vet tomorrow if she doesn't pick up overnight.

Just going to call my best mate as she's self-employed and may be able to do a mercy dash if necessary.

She's made herself comfy in my pashmina drawer for the time being...

She looks very cosy in there! Her eyes look bright which is a good sign - when mine have been really poorly, the 'third eyelid' always comes up at the bottom.

Yes, good idea to have a 'just in case' option for the vet. It's awful when managers aren't sympathetic to poorly animals - I don't know what they expect people to do!

Fingers crossed she continues to improve overnight.

Sending your kitty get well vibes.

We've got a part bengal and your description is very accurate Grin

ScreamingValenta · 16/05/2019 07:36

Hoping your gorgeous girl is doing well today, OP.

MintyCedric · 16/05/2019 13:23

Thank you. I had her in with me overnight (they usually stay downstairs as they are herberts!).

She had a tiny bit of chicken and some kitten milk, faffed about for about an hour then slept by my feet for about 4 hours. Naturally I kept waking up to check on her so was not a great night's sleep.

She had some dry food this morning and as far as I know everything stayed put and she seemed perkier (and purrier!) this morning.

My mum's checking in her shortly so fingers crossed.
