Very subdued after being chased...

My very elderly boy was chased at high speed by a neighbour's terrier last night. Wasn't caught, but was very frightened, as were we (and the terrier's owner.....he was heading to the car and the dog just took off like a rocket). The cat was chased into our own garden and house (the back door was open) and so turned a few corners very quickly, as did the dog (the back path chips were scattered for several metres all over the lawn).

Anyway, he seems fine physically, has let us feel all his legs and feet, has been thoroughly checked for bites on his bum and tail etc, and there don't seem to be any injuries. He was a bit wobbly all last night and spent the evening under the blanket on our bed (normally he's a lap cat). Today he's moving fine, but he's totally silent (this one's a singer) and has gone straight to bed after eating.

Do you think I ought to take him to the vet, just to check? That's trauma I'd rather not put him through if I can avoid it. I may just be an overprotective (and very angry at the dog) "mama". He's just so subdued and not his usual chirpy self. I'm guessing he's still a bit shocked. OH thinks we should let him recover quietly today and see how he is tomorrow, and I'm inclined to agree. I'm also inclined to panic though, especially as he's so old. He's a fit old boy though - he still jumps up and down off beds and tables etc, and he can still clearly out-gallop a west highland terrier at full homicidal maniac speed.....thank crunchie.

Oh dear. There I do have to say that he looks a little ... guilty.

Glad he's ok OP. My precious sauntered out of front door last weekend, past our car and straight in to a spaniel which lives down the road and was off lead. No idea why. Luckily we were out there and front door still open so she fled inside and we could operate enough interference so she got away. Also it wasn't the sharpest of dogs. Scary though. Your poor boy must have been so shocked.

How's he doing OP? Is he boasting about his exploits yet?

I'd say he was well on the road to recovery, thank you!
He's moving much better today after being quite limpy for the last day or two. Still with a slight limp at times, but he's on the mend. He's just ran up the last few stairs to get there before me, and had no issue jumping up onto the bed, so he must be feeling much more comfortable. He's eating and drinking as normal, so all in all, we got away lightly. The dogs have been away for a couple of days so that's helped us all relax. I know he's safe in his own garden or round the front (where all the interesting smells are, after all) at the moment.
Thanks for asking, and thank you everyone for helping me stay sane.

Has he got his voice back is he telling you how it all is?

Jamsangwich · 16/05/2019 14:46

He has indeed. Had a wee sing song in the hall today after his lunch, and whilst he's not as vocal as he is normally, he's getting there. I assume he's building up his stamina again before he gives us a full performance.

A £ says he's doing his more pathetic voice and putting on a limp when you're there just for some extra sympathy!
