Can I move kitty?

I am so worried. I have to move to another part of the country for a new job and I have a 17 year old cat who has always lived here. She only cares about being with me and sleeping and I am so worried about the big move. Will she be OK? My ex husband said he'd have her but there is no way I could give her up.

I moved with my cat 2 years ago. She was then between 6-8 years old and she took it very well and was extremely relaxed during the chaos. I had set up a room for her in both flats where she could have gone to avoid the chaos and have a quiet rest but she preferred to stay where all the action was 😊

I moved country (abroad) with my old girl cat. She was absolutely fine - bit unsettled at first. She was very focused on me and didnt like other people so i spent as much time with her as possible in a quiet room until she felt brave enough to explore the new house.

Oh that's great :-) My ex is renting my house until I can sell it but I honestly don't think he'll be able to cope with her complex medical needs.
I think as long as she is with me she should be ok. Your cat looks so sweet Mia.

Thank you Madcatlady and good luck with the move! I’m sure your cat will be fine if she is able to withdraw from the noise and commotion.

We moved house twice with our two when they ere 14 and there wasn't a bother on them.

My parents moved with their two cats. They did just fine. They also took in a cat that we used to have (long story). She did okay too, and she loves my mum.

Before I was married, I moved with my cat, Froggie. She was initially a bit nervous about the new apartment, but once we got my bed set up and made, she curled up on there and fell asleep Grin

Your DCat may do better if you get familiar things (litter box, bed, food bowls, etc.) set up right away. I'd also recommend placing DCat in the litter box once it is set up. This way kitty learns the layout of the house relative to the box and always knows how to find it.

My old cats had moved with me zillions of times. One couldn’t care less, he would saunter in to any house and piss in it to make it his own Shock
The other was more timid but always settled after a bit of time.

Funny that - my first cat (who adopted me) did this. I moved quite a few times and he'd always spray on a wall the first time he arrived in a new flat - and again as the last thing he did when the flat was empty and we were ready to move out.
Otherwise he had impeccable toilet manners!

I moved with my cat and set up an area for her in one room. She hid for two days then came out and explored and now is very happy charging around the house.
