Need to re-home my cat asap

I need to re-home my cat asap. The cat has attacked my toddler. CP and RSPCA both have waiting lists of months and I just wonder if anyone has any suggestions I haven't thought of.

Cat is about 15 years old. Very aggressive towards young children and other animals. I don't want to have her put to sleep but am running out of options.

She was a stray when we got her from CPL arond 10 years ago,but they said if she's aggressive, they may not take her back.

I'm feeling absolutely horrible about the whole situation so please, no posts about how cruel I am!

As I'm single I only ever take in problem cats and I've had 6 over the years all of whom have sat in Cats Protection for a year or more. There are people out there willing to take cats like this and cats don't mind being rehomed as long as it's done well. It is pretty hard to find us though and I can't have another one until the current elderly cat dies.

Baloonphobia · 09/05/2019 15:45

I'd PTS too. I don't think you have any other option.

Starlive23 · 09/05/2019 15:46

@Bertiebotts yes the cat has broken the skin, I cleaned with TCP at the time and once since and will do again later.

Is there anything else you would suggest? Certainly not bad enough for stitches but do you think a trip to GP?

Have you tried some of the colleges that offer animal care courses in the west midlands? My sister works at one of these and they have lots of animals and a cattery on site. They do rehome lots but some live out their days there. Try Rodbaston, Solihull maybe Halesowen?

Just as an update, my neighbor's mother is going to give it a trial run with her. Her elderly cat died a couple of weeks ago so she said she's more than happy to give it a go and see if it works. If not I will have her back but we are meeting her later so fingers crossed!

Fingers crossed that it works out!! I was going to say that it might be worth talking to smaller local cat charities, as some of them are much better at rehoming hard to match cats. My local one just re-homed an 18 year old cat, and they've also found homes for cats with "issues".

Wolfiefan · 10/05/2019 11:03

Hope so. But have you had her checked by a vet?

Starlive23 · 10/05/2019 11:52

@wolfie yes cat has been checked out by vet, all blood tests came back fine but the vet said he suspected arthritis in her back legs. Fingers crossed.

Fingers crossed that things work out between your cat and your neighbor‘s mother!

StarbucksSmarterSister · 10/05/2019 12:02

Have you advertised on social media/Gumtree/preloved pets etc?

Bloody hell, don't do this!

Wolfiefan · 10/05/2019 12:24

Our old girl had awful arthritis but was comfy with medication and a heated pad. Hope it all works out for you.

If the cat bite broke the skin, you need to see a doctor today - walk in clinic or A&E if you can't get a GP appointment.
Cat bites are a very high infection risk (I used to work in a vets, any bites meant going straight to the local walk in clinic)

@Starlive23 see my post above re the bite

(& apologies for my apparent inability to tag someone correctly today!)

OP if neighbours DM doesn't work out try Ravens Rescue in Dudley. They're a foster based rescue so Dcat wouldn't end up in a rescue centre, they're on Facebook and have a website if you google. Hope you get her sorted.

Starlive23 · 10/05/2019 13:42

@Awkward many thanks for your reply, we took her to a & e last night and she was given the ok but many thanks for letting me know yesterday, I hadn't realised it could be so serious.

No worries, glad she is ok - many people don't realise. I'm sorry you are in this difficult position.

Ablemaybel · 10/05/2019 14:31

Blue Cross are very good and are nation wide I think.
It's where I got my cat from last November. They had cats of all ages, there was one old boy who because he had several health issues and was aggressive had been with them some time. He was free to wander about the gardens and only kept in his pen at night.

merryMuppet · 10/05/2019 23:11

I'm sure you will make the right decision for you and your family but just in case it is of any help I grew up with a very aggressive cat and my family kept us separate with doors shut and the cat either shut out or in another part of the house/flat until I got to a bit older where I knew I just had to avoid her and keep away from her.

I've never met another cat quite as aggressive as she was though and have lived now with cats pretty much my entire life. She died when I was about 7 but must have been a similar age to your cat when I was a toddler. I definitely got scratched at least once by her but think that was enough for me to learn to keep my distance from her. It took me a little while longer to learn that other cats are mostly gorgeous purry furry loving creatures.
