How to build independence?

Any tips on building independence in a cat?

So I have recently had an operation so have been in bed longer & off course of work.

During this time I've noticed a pattern with my girl. So around 6ish she'll wake us to go out, which is fine, we let her out via a window & she goes out out for about 20 mins & then comes back. No problem at all.

My partner gets up then & goes downstairs, she'll go down with him & shout at him to feed her...again fine & he does

BUT she then just looks at the food and comes back to bed with me! She paws & purrs & settles down for a while, but then starts getting restless but she doesn't go back out or down to eat. She will wait for me to get up before she eats her breakfast or go back out!! Its like she needs me there?

She'll be 2 in August, she's been with us nearly 14 months. No other issues at all with her....I'm just worried about this dependence on me in the mornings?

Any suggestions or do I just enjoy the extra cuddles 😊

Enjoy the extra cuddles. She'll go back to her usual routine when you are back to normal. Although my girl has recently changed her routine and has gone very cuddly in the morning.

What about a catflap? My monster is nearly one and the catflap has really helped her with independence. She is much more confident outside - and she seems to understand that no other cats can come through it.

Thanks both, extra cuddles it is! I'm back to work soon so hopefully normal service will be resumed soon!

Sadly we can't put a cat flap in just yet, but she has free access during this time she jist chooses to stay in bed...little snuggle monster!
