Should I be worried about a cat that doesn't climb?

I've posted on here before about my new kitten being really greedy. He is still really greedy but we're now wise to it and never leave food around.
Vet has said he's on the big side but not overweight.
My cats are outdoor cats and my now 10 month old kitten is out all the time but he never jumps and climbs anything.
He is always on the ground and runs through holes in the fence/gaps behind the shed etc
Two neighbours have slightly younger kittens and they're always up in trees and on the shed roof so it's not his age.
I don't think I've ever seen him even jump up on the kitchen counter without first jumping on the chair to get to the counter.

He's half Persian and half moggy if thats of any significance.
Should I be worried or are there cats that just prefer the ground?

Some cats like up, some like sneaking into a corner, some like slap bang in the middle of the floor.
Google Jackson Galaxy.

Hi
I wouldn’t worry-he’ll jump when he needs to!
My cat is 6 and doesn’t jump-never has really.. she used to climb the curtains (😡) as a kitten but now she’s just too lazy to do anything! Lol.. she climbed the neighbours tree a few weeks ago to get away from their dog and I ended up having to knock on their door and climb the tree to get her down again!!
Seriously I wouldn’t worry x

From my Jackson galaxy back of my mind days there are tree dwellers and bush dwellers. It's a confidence thing I think.

Does he have a cat tree? That might help his confidence a bit.

Persians are a breed that aren't really jumpers. I think it's because they have a heavier, cobby body shape compared to say, a lithe Siamese.

Thanks all,

This boy of mine does worry me sometimes as he's unlike any cat I've ever known, I'm pretty sure he's part dog. Eats anything and I mean anything.
For example, I left out leftover sugar paste (rolled icing) from a cake double wrapped in cling film. He ate it and most of the cling film which meant a trip to the vet but he was fine.
Yes we have a large cat tree and lots of side boards and shelf's which my other cat jumps on.
I'll google Jackson Galaxy too.
He's the best cat for affection and has a lovely nature, has never bitten, scratched, hissed or growled.
I'm happy for him to be a ground dweller and pleased the lack of jumping/climbing isn't a red flag for something else!
@SpamChaudFroid
He does have a bit of a cobby body so maybe it's the Persian in him

Did I mention my cats part idiot?? That’s quite a significant part of her breed!! Lol...
As gamerchick mentioned - maybe it’s a confidence thing. Enjoy him-he sounds wonderful just as he is. X

We have a Maine Coon who is not a great climber. He does now jump on the kitchen worktop but I don’t think he did as a kitten. He is literally not a good climber though - regularly gets stuck on top of the fence and once got stuck up a tree overnight and had to get a tree surgeon to get him down. He is exceedingly gentle though but I think his size makes it more difficult to climb.

YesQueen · 18/04/2019 22:28

Mine can jump in the back window but not the front. They're exactly the same height Confused
He also has a love for potato and baked beans, preferably together and will steal pizza crusts to gum he has one tooth
I got him a cat tree and he claimed vertigo and slept in the box it came in. Cat charity were very grateful for their lovely new tree Hmm

YesQueen · 18/04/2019 22:29

And yes same with the biting/hissing etc. I stroked him once and he opened his mouth at me so I took him to the vet Blush who found a massive abscess
I sat on him yesterday (accidentally) and he just looked at me accusingly

My full Persians don't climb. Their legs are too short. My friends half Persian climbs a bit, but not as much as normal cats.
