What sort of cat doesn't like mice?

So last night there was a mouse in my bathroom 🙈 I got our cat who is 1 and took him with me into the bathroom with hope that he would get it. Nope he wasn't one bit interested and the mouse at one point ran under the cat. Is my cat broken? He catches birds all the time so he does have skills! What sort of a cat doesn't like mice?

Lighthearted btw. We love our cat even though he is a wuss 🤦🏻‍♀️

Mine doesn’t. He bought one in once. It was still alive. He the. Got really scared of it and ran away. I don’t get the half eaten birds or mice presents like everyone else gets. My cat is weird. But cute.

PerryMasonsFriend · 17/04/2019 12:34

One with a bad cattitude?

I thought this was going to be a joke!

chocolatelog · 17/04/2019 12:39

@Dontgiveamonkeys1350 your lucky. Mine brings home headless birds it's revolting 🤢

Mine loves chasing flies... butterflies or any flying bugs... she's not all there tbh Smile

Megan2018 · 17/04/2019 12:44

Out of my 3 cats, 2 will hunt and the other just looks baffled.

We have daily mice at the moment as they have found a nest. They eat them and leave leg bones and tails for me to walk in. Revolting.

Previous cat used to eat the heads of baby rabbits and leave the bodies in the house though so mice are a a big improvement!

justasking111 · 17/04/2019 12:45

The male kind, a queen is a much better hunter.

chocolatelog · 17/04/2019 12:46

@justasking111 oh really? I thought all cats were good at hunting. Well you learn something new everyday 🤔

Mines is useless with killing mice. We don't have them but he'll bring them into the house to play 😫😫😫😫 but kills birds all the time. Has evaded 5million belled collars or someone takes pity on him for looking so fancy and takes them off.

Cats are fickle creatures.

Megan2018 · 17/04/2019 12:51

@justasking111
Our male is much better than the 2 girls! They are bone idle.

pisspawpatrol · 17/04/2019 12:55

It's because you asked him to do something and cats don't do what you want them to! He's reminding you he is in charge.

My girl will catch moths, spiders, flies etc but only if she wants to. If I point her in the direction of a spider she walks away.

GarthFunkel · 17/04/2019 12:57

Ours will chase mice and birds. They can even catch insects. But they will not eat meat though - as in, fresh off the bone chicken, or leftovers, even if chopped up. What weird cat won't eat meat? They'll eat cheese if it's grated rather than cut.

MooominMamma · 17/04/2019 13:07

Mine used to bring me socks, then she switched to pigeons! These are her gifts. She hunts spiders to eat . . . she's an odd one.

chocolatelog · 17/04/2019 14:13

Some of these have made me laugh 😆 cats are weird creatures.

Honestly the dog was more helpful than the cat. At least she shows some interest 🙄

Our cats don't go out, but Biggie has almost no hunting instinct. He does like to play with wand toys and string but that's about it. I suspect that if he saw a mouse he would probably try to make friends with it. He tried to do that with a dog once.

We suspect Biggie thinks he's a dog Grin

Toddlerteaplease · 17/04/2019 17:28

Mine wouldn't have a clue. I think they'd freak out!

Pixel99 · 22/04/2019 21:09

Two girl cats (adopted at 2 1/2 so not sure what they were like when they were younger). One would occasionally bring in a mouse (thankfully usually alive) but she hasn't done this for about four years. The last gift (I mean mouse) too refuge in DD school shoe. DD went to put her shoes on ready to leave and couldn't get her foot in. Put her hand in shoe and brought out the poor resident by it's tail. Not sure who was more surprised. Other DCat has never brought anything in, she's too lazy and prefers food in her bowl not not have a free fur coat. There is plenty of opportunity where we live as well.

Bunnybigears · 22/04/2019 21:14

I think its contagious. Dcat1 is completely useless as cat. She goes as far as to sleep on top of our gerbil cage but has never once shown any interest in them whatsoever, even when I tried to recruit her into the search party when one got out. Dcat2 came along as a former stray/part feral cat. She is equally as useless.

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 22/04/2019 21:25

One of ours is totally useless- she was a starving stray. The only thing she can catch are moths and butterflies Sad, she catches them comes to me and chirps with pride that she has caught something, hence opening her mouth and letting it go, much to her bemusement.

YesQueen · 22/04/2019 21:33

@shouldwestayorshouldwego same here, starving stray. He befriended an elderly woman and batted his eyelashes Hmm
If he sees a spider he screams for me, a mouse would have him fainting

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 22/04/2019 21:45

We did track her owners (neighbours) who didn't want her. Her brother was still fairly chunky because he could hunt, all she could do was scavenge and would steal crisps/ bread from our dc.

YesQueen · 22/04/2019 22:07

Mine managed 4 years as a stray but I suspect he was batting his lashes a lot. He also has a strange love for pizza crusts Grin

Weedsnseeds1 · 26/04/2019 23:46

Based on personal experience, about 80% of them. Current cat being the 20% of serial killing, red mist, urge to kill types that will murder anything that moves

agnurse · 27/04/2019 05:07

Bunnybigears

We once had a cat who was terrified of my brother's teddy bear hamster. Said hamster got out once. Mum found him drinking out of the cat's water dish while the cat was cowering on the steps about 8 feet away. (Mind, we adopted the cat from friends when she was 3 weeks old - mother didn't have enough milk for two kittens and she was getting the short end of the stick. She didn't really cat.)

As I mentioned, I suspect our Biggie would try to make friends with a mouse. My sister said once that you feel like saying, "This is Biggie. He's adorable, if not a little special." Biggie snuggles a hamster "Like we said..."
