Cat pooing on rugs

I posted a few weeks ago about my cat having very soft poos, this has improved slightly - they are still soft but more formed, we went back to Iams dry food as she seemed better on that. Anyway, for the past week she has been using rugs around the house and once dd’s bed for one of her twice daily poos - for the other one she uses one of her trays. She is also depositing smaller nuggets near to the main poo. Yesterday she also entered then left the one tray that is hooded a few times meowing without doing anything then used a rug downstairs a few hours later. She weed on dd’s bed a week ago but hasn’t since, she must be using the trays for wees.

Things I have done:

  • taken her to the vets who thought it was behavioural rather than medical after a quick examination
  • added in a third tray - now we have one downstairs and two upstairs
  • given her hairball paste as she gets hairballs anyway and I wondered if she has a blockage?
  • Restarted using Feliway

I have not changed her litter, we use pellets which she was using at the shelter we adopted her from. I did attempt to swap to Worlds Best a few months ago but she refused to use it. The trays are cleaned regularly. I have ordered larger ones in case she feels that she needs more space. I use bio washing powder every time she does it so no scent should be left.

Any advice please? I will take her back to the vets tomorrow too.

TIA

Wood pellets are like Lego bricks. Try ultra clumping, very small granules.

Even though she refused to use worlds best? When the new trays arrive I might put cats best in one of the 5 I’ll have then and see if it gets used!

Yes, mine hates worlds best.

HelloJackieYouLookNice · 15/04/2019 19:46

Ok. So my plan is
Vet tomorrow
Wait for new trays
Put cats best in a few trays and carry on with pellets and see what gets used

We are away next weekend and have a cat sitter calling so the timing isn’t great!

Try sanicat gold. I have been there with this issue. I have tried all the litters on my cat.

Thank you, I’ll take a look

I’m back from the vet. He was very vague. He thinks her stomach area is swollen, says it could be worms? As she’s had wormer in the past few days this should kick in soon if it is. He thought maybe it could be cystitis so she’s got anti inflammatories for 4 days. It could be stress due to dkitten (who we’ve had for 6 weeks now with no issues before now). So no clearer really!

I’m off to buy new litter now!

How’s it going?.

I was thinking earlier, when ours didn’t like his litter we used sand. He climbed straight in to wee.

He had to have litter rehab after the trauma of me trying crystal cat litter.

Not great. I’m becoming more convinced that it’s a medical issue. After one dose of metacam she had blood in her stool so I phoned the vets back and spoke to a different one who was far more helpful and suggested sending off a sample which I did, results are clear so far but not fully back yet. Yesterday so was rubbing her bum along the floor before pooing (in the tray) so I phoned them back again and another vet said to keep waiting for the full results and go from there.

We now have 4 trays with 2 different litters. Dkitten is happy to use either type but dcat still seems to prefer the pellets. We have gone away as planned and the sitter has kept me up to date and so far all poos are where they should be Smile

Well at last cat likes the cheap stuff! I wouldn’t b happy with bottom dragging either.

Never a dull moment with these cats is there?.

So shes behaving when you arent there?🙂

HelloJackieYouLookNice · 20/04/2019 20:00

Basically yes. We obviously need to move out and leave them to it Grin

Back from the vets again...stool sample completely clear, anus looks normal. Cat went nuts when being examined (although she was looking stressed from the moment she went in the carrier) so the vet thinks hyperestesia and we have been given gabapentin to try. Does anyone have any experience? Poor girl, I hate to think that she’s been in pain for weeks Sad
