Who is feeding his Highness??

Someone must be.

He will eat most of the biscuits (measured portion) we give him in the morning but always leaves some. He gets wet food in the evening alongside the left over biscuits. Usually licks the jelly off and eats about 1/3 of the meat then finishes the biscuits.

He does hunt. Brings in about 1 mouse a week but I'm sure he has a couple more as outside snacks.

He is a big cat. Over the 3 years we've had him his weight has always been between 4.75kg-5.25kg. Vet says his fighting weight should be around 5kg so we've been doing pretty well!

Just came back from vet following booster jabs. He is 6.25kg ShockShockShock

He's very well known in our close so I know it's not one of our immediate neighbours. Other than that, he likes to hang around the allotments. I suspect that's where his supply of mice comes from. Someone must be giving him extra food or lots of treats for him to have got so heavy, right?

I've put a paper "do not feed me" collar on him but he's come back in twice without it now. Reducing his food at home means increasing the risk of him just adopting a new family who feed him fucking dreamies

Could I logistically strap a go-pro onto the cat to find out where he goes and why he's got so fat?!

(He hasn't actually got very fat, which is why I didn't notice the weight gain so much. He's just become very heavy!)

Get a proper collar that says do not feed me on it. My parents did this and told their cat that it said 'very handsome cat'

Toddlerteaplease · 13/04/2019 22:35

Do that he would keep it on.

viccat · 13/04/2019 22:46

It's not necessarily someone deliberately feeding; he could be getting into people's houses as lots of people have open cat flaps and dry food out all the time...

MrsCatE · 14/04/2019 15:50

My cat is almost 9kg . . . Blush - he's 'big boned'' . . .

GarthFunkel · 14/04/2019 15:53

Have a look at a Tractive GPS. You can see where he's been and for how long.

LemonRedwood · 14/04/2019 17:44

@Toddlerteaplease Proper collars don't last that long either. Longest run has been 4 days. He is Houdini 😂

@viccat That's a good point. Maybe I'll post on the local cat group on FB and ask people to gently shoo him away if they catch him.

@MrsCatE Shock Is he a big breed? Picture please! Grin

@GarthFunkel That looks quite pricey. Have you used it? Would you recommend?

You can get second hand ones very cheaply - the sting is the monthly fee. But it's pretty accurate, and we have a runner-cat and can use it on the dog and/or kids as well. Where we thought the cat went and where it goes are widely different so if when she buggers off again we'll know where to look.

@LemonRedwood he's a moggy. We fostered him when he was a miniscule 6 week old kitten from a feral colony (mum rescued but started to duff up her kittens). You would think genetics would produce small, energy efficient beast however . . . our boy. Fed on organic, grain free food too. Weight has plateaued out for last 3 years (he's 6). Vet makes noises but admits cat is 'Panther'.
