I got my first ever cat last year he was about 11 weeks old little ginger beauty. I had just struggled through an awful break up and I couldn't believe how much he helped me through with his company. Fast forward to him being 7 months old in January and I took him in for neutering, brought him home and the next day I found him having a seizure. Rushed him to the vets but they were unable to save him and my little mate died In my arms. I told him thankyou and told him he made me so happy. I couldn't believe it . He was my first ever cat as I've just never thought about getting one before we have always been a dog family even from when I was little. Now I've found myself searching online for an adult cat and I have a few questions if you wont mind helping me with
Where are the best places to look for a new cat?
I've I got good reason to be scared of having an outside cat if I dont have a cat flap and do they still need a litter tray or do they wait until they go outside ?
Pros and cons of Male or female?
Best insurer?
Tips for bringing them home for the first time ?

Thankyou so much in advance. I really want to get this right and just trying to prepare best as possible

Good for you! Definitely try a cat rescue as they usually have many adult cats of all ages looking for a home. They are not all "damaged" in any way or have special needs to be in a rescue, plenty of "regular" cats also need homes! They would also be neutered, vaccinated & treated for worms/fleas and the rescue centre would also answer any questions. Most provide a basic starter pack if needed. Look at CatChat online to find places near you.

If for some reason it doesn't work out, cats can be returned - this is obviously undesirable but better in the long run for both parties and not an option if you just a get a cat from a classified ad or web site, etc

Good luck!

Definitely try a rescue. You'll know when you've found the right cat. My 'rainbow' cat is currently crawling all over me!

I agree, definitely adopt from a rescue. I have my cat insured with MoreThan who have been fabulous and paid out over £6,000 in 12 months with no quibbles at all. I'd recommend a litter tray even if you have a cat flap. You will need to keep the cat inside for the first few weeks anyway so will definitely need a litter tray.
