What's wrong with my cat?

Firstly she was at the vet this morning at 11.

Last night she was on the litter tray and there was a tiny bit of blood. Size of a penny, quite bright.
She's 4 and neutered.
Took her to the vets this morning she said not cystitis and that the bladder and bowel felt empty. "Probably inflammation " was the vague diagnosis.
She was prescribed METACAM which is an anti inflammatory painkiller.

Since we've been home the cat is pacing, going to the little tray and sitting ( not straining) but nothing comes out.
She has eaten a bit and had a load of Dreamies.

Anyone with any suggestions before I try the vet again?
Thanks

So how did the vet establish there was no cystitis? It can only really be diagnosed by taking a urine sample and testing that (which is not instant).

It certainly sounds exactly like cystitis, my cat used to get it and it was exactly like that - frequent urination and blood in her urine.

The vet only looked at her and felt her bladder and took her heart rate, didn't check her temp.
He just said cats generally don't get cystitis. ( we have had a cat with cystitis years ago so we suggested it) and that it was inflammation that would settle in a few days.

I'm not convinced but I suppose we need to give the painkiller time to work.

It was all a bit vague

Different vet. Our late girl had cystitis once. In cats it needs quick treatment. I'd go to a different vet.

The Metacam will help with the pain quite quickly, however without testing her urine they won't be able to say if it's an infection or idiopathic cystitis which is also very common but more vague in that it doesn't always have an obvious cause (can be stress related, for example).

Doesn't sounds like a great vet tbh so I'd be inclined to consult a different vet!

I'm tempted to go somewhere else tonight. But I've been registered at our practice for 20 years.

This vet don't have English as a first language which didn't help, but I don't think I missed anything they said.

As we have more than one cat it's going to be hard to tell if she uses the litter tray or not.
However no more blood since last night as far as we can tell and she's not pacing about any more.

Our cats on cystease for recurrent cystitis so I’d like that vet to tell me cats don’t generally get it 🙄

I’d see a different vet too. Temperature ought to be checked surely?.

Our cat gets cystitis too....i thought it was common. Our vet SW ebbed her bits with a cotton bud, and I had to go to GP for prescription for a cat bite as a result. I would go back or go to different vet

Toomuchgoingon · 28/03/2019 20:27

"swabbed" not ebbed

Champagnebrain · 28/03/2019 20:40

I wanted to write "Vet doesn't have English as a first language "
I do have English as a first language. Auto correct apparently doesn't.

She doesn't seem too bad tonight. She's had a poop ( no blood ) and eaten some food and isn't pacing around.
I'm going to see how she is overnight.
