Hi. We have two cats boy and a girl. They're 5 months old. We thought we had two girls but one was being very "male" so, long story short, we have one of each and both now neutered.
For the last two months one of them has been peeing on my two daughters beds. We've never caught them.
When we found out one was a boy I was a bit relieved as it meant it would probably stop once he was spayed. It hasn't. We've since caught her doing it as well as peeing in the fire and coal skuttle!
We've been keeping doors shut etc. Lots of feliway everywhere.
Last night my husband was sleeping in my daughters room and he got up for a pee and in that time the kitten had snuck in and peed again! He is really pissed off. Wants to rehome them (in his defence he is part time and does most housework and I do full time)!
What can I do? She's going to the vets tomorrow for post op check. Two covered trays cleaned regularly
Thanks!

Maybe she doesn't like the covered tray. Try it with the lid off and maybe try a different litter

Toddlerteaplease · 28/03/2019 11:37

Agree..try different trays and different litter. I discovered that one of mine liked it really deep. Peeing on the sofa stopped overnight.

Great ok thanks. I've taken the lid off I thought they'd prefer to be covered!

The only time I've ever had a covered litter tray was when one cat of mine used to dig and dig and chuck litter all over the place, and it was a right pain to clear up several times a day.

Murinae · 28/03/2019 16:40

Maybe once you start letting them out they will stop.

rosydreams · 28/03/2019 16:44

i had a cat that hated clay litter and would only use wood litter. Also use a urine eliminator spray to get rid of the smell of pee they pee were it smells of pee

Kittens who haven’t been outside have softer paws and some litters are a bit rough on them. It must be like walking over Lego pieces for them.

Try an ultra clumping, Wilko do one very cheap. The ultra clumping litters are very fine grained & softer to dig in. For 2 cats you need 3 trays. Some like a really clean tray and will wee elsewhere if the trays aren’t up to their standards.

I don’t think your husband should be thinking about rehoming a very young kitten because she isn’t yet house trained. Surely you anticipated there would be accidents, and damaged furniture etc when you decided to get cats? Sorry, it just makes me made when people give up on pets when they realise they don’t perfectly fit into their life.

Speak to your vet, they will have lots of tips. Be careful on clumping litter for younger kittens - they soemtimes eat litter and clumping can change abuse all sorts of problems. Could you restrict her to a smaller area at night, away from her usual illegal peeing spots so she has to use the litter tray?

Also the usual rule is one litter tray per car plus an extra.

Thank you that all makes sense. I think my DH is just reacting. He's shut up now that I threatened to kick him out instead of them!!!
I'm going to let them out soon I think but they're only 5 months and I worry they're too little

They are a bit little to go out yet. Snack sized is another term for it.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 29/03/2019 14:01

How many litter trays do you have? For two cats you need at least 4 trays if not 5.

dementedpixie · 29/03/2019 14:05

No you don't. 3 max really. Although my 2 used to use 1 tray even if I put out more than 1. I had 1 xl tray for both of them

elvislives2012 · 29/03/2019 14:13

Ah they're definitely snack sized!!! We've got two trays. I might get another one in that case.
Here they are. They weigh just over 2.5kg each. Mum was very small too and very young

Can also be a sign of anxiety. Ours sometimes wee just outside their litter tray, even when it's clean.

Maybe try one of those scents that relax cats?
