Mine has run out so need to renew it. I'm getting confused by the different options!
I have a 6yo neutered tom. No health problems that I am aware of. I want a policy that will cover us for accidents, and if any long term health conditions occur. So for example if he gets kidney problems, I'd like treatment and medication to be covered for the duration of his life. Of course I expect to pay excess.
So, what features should I be looking for? Thanks in advance.

I have Tesco and they've been great with my pair of trouble makers long term health issues. We've run up bills of £16k and they've paid out with no issues.

Petplan covered for life is one of the best, most vet's work with them so can easily send in claims forms etc. You are exactly right in that you will want to look for a lifetime policy hat will continue covering each condition for the lifetime of your cat.

Do note that once any health issues crop up (even if it's just something you mention to the vet but turns out to not be serious) you can't change insurance companies any more as anything he's had would then count as pre-existing. If he has been healthy up to now and only had routine vet care (neutering, vaccinations) then you should be fine to go with a new company.

@viccat he had a cut on his paw last year after a fight. The vet just cleaned it and have an abx injection. Does that now count as a pre existing issue eve though it was a one off injury?

It should be ok although you might have to disclose it when you take up a new policy (last time I took up a policy they asked if my kittens had had any health issues whether they required vet treatment or not). On the other hand when I took up a policy for my three legged cat, there were no exclusions even though I said she'd been born with a deformed leg and had an amputation.
