Fleas are resistant to treatments

Hey up.

Used stronghold from vets for a year until it stopped working.
They gave me moxidectin ( moxiclear)
Hoocat has still got fleas.
Any idea what to try? I Hoover and wash regularly. And spray carpets etc. So none in house, but just on Hoocat.

What are you using in the house? There will only be a very small percentage on the cat, the rest will be in the environment

Oh gosh I can’t keep on top of them either. Have indorex while house, on top of advocate flea treatment and splashed out on seresto collar. But still the fleas live on 🙁

As long as you treat the cat then any fleas in the environment will be killed when they jump on to feed. The website for advocate (same ingredients as the treatment you have been given) says it can take 3 months to clear them if you rely on the treated cat to kill them

I’ve got a tablet flea treatment. Lasts a month.

The spot on treatments last a month too

He's been treated with stronghold for a year with good effect, but this year after treatment I see him scratching and find fleas, re do him - 5 times, still a fleabag. The vet said they are getting more people saying they are finding the fleas are resistant I hot wash his bedding and our soft furnishings/ cushions/ throws regularly, spray carpets with flea spray and Hoover. I've not seen any in the house, only on him.

I think he's visiting a neighbour that has a cat.

So perhaps I should give the moxiclear three months.

He's long haired if that makes a difference. I make sure I put it on the skin, not just on the fur.

He's curled up next to me on the sofa, snoring and scratching in his sleep.

The vet recommended Credelio oral flea treatment. It’s a small chewable tablet that 99% of cats will eat happily.

I only got it yesterday so can’t comment yet on the effectiveness of it, but the vet recommended it above spot on applications.

Just like nits on kids, one of the best ways to help get rid of them is by combing with a flea comb. Before the modern spot on treatments I remember we used to comb them regularly, because the flea powder was so awful. Really satisfying to comb through and get a comb full of fleas which you can then squish with your nails - or is this just me Grin.

Anyhow, perhaps try some combing along with the treatments and see if you can break the cycle. Of course, the cat has to be pretty compliant.
