Bastard cat

So I was just upstairs in the bathroom, the cat walks in, stoops down, pisses on the mat, walks back down stairs into the utility room (where their is a cat flap to outside) and sits down. WTF

Anyone else have a bastard cat tale that's shocking??

Have you got a litter tray?

cindersrella · 20/03/2019 21:34

No as he has a cat flap and always uses that. He doesn't really go upstairs.

every so often he does things like this (not for at least 6 years though... he has shit on my husbands snood (which cost a fortune) Hugo boss wallet (which cost a fortune) my daughters first birthday cake (my Nan was mortified as she has got it her).

He is 14.... so cats go senile?

I’d re-instate a tray. He’s trying to tell you something.

Wolfiefan · 20/03/2019 22:08

He could have a UTI
There could be a new cat lurking about and scaring him.
All cats should have access to a litter tray.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 20/03/2019 22:08

I think our old cat developed a kind of dementia around that age. Had been very clean, and then got really incontinent.

AdoraBell · 20/03/2019 22:13

I have an Utter Bastard dog who dashes out at breakneck spread in the morning, urinates on the flowers then runs back inside in case he somehow misses breakfast, and shits in the conservatory Hmm. It’s a bloody good job he’s cute.

Mentounasc · 20/03/2019 22:15

MentounasCat really hates peeing or pooing inside and would generally choose to go outside. But we keep him in at night because his safety is more important and thus he always has access to a litter tray, which he uses about once a month when he really has to. Now imagine he didn't have that litter tray, he'd be peeing or pooing on some object of ours instead. The Message of this: get him a litter tray and there's a good chance the problem will disappear.

I had a cat who dashed into the room while I was teaching, jumped on the piano and pissed up the wall in front of us. Luckily the pupil was a very understanding adult who was not completely freaked out.

cindersrella · 20/03/2019 22:21

I just don't get why he has come out to of the utility (next to his cat flap) walked the 13 steps up the stairs.. into the bathroom took a pee and then walked all the way back down the stairs and sat on his bed again next to his flap.

I don't see how a litter tray would work as I would be putting that in the utility as I have a 4year old and a 8 year old plus two dogs that would definitely mess in it (not the kids. Well maybe the 4 yr old, but the dogs).

Maybe there's another Tom cat about? Or he's going nuts!

I'm glad it's not just my 🐈

He came to you to show you. If you have a cat you need to make a litter tray work.

nocoolnamesleft · 20/03/2019 23:18

He didn't want to piss in his own bedroom!

Fluffycloudland77 · 21/03/2019 06:42

A covered tray from pets at home is about £10-12 with a charcoal filter. Wilkinson’s do an ultra clumping litter for £2.25 a bag. Much easier to scoop than other litters. A child’s spade from a bucket and spade set makes a good scooper.

You can put it on the utility worktop.

He was definitely doing it to show you, just be glad you weren’t in your bedroom, mine did it on the divan once when he had a uti.

cindersrella · 21/03/2019 09:42

Thanks everyone, I've had him for 14 years and only had a litter tray when he was a baby as we have always had a cat flap. It looks like he is now becoming an old man.

I'd get him checked out, sudden changes in behaviour could be a sign of something else. Sorry, dont want to alarm you but our old boy started doing things like that and it turned out he had a huge tumour in his abdomen that had been missed on his most recent check-up and now joining the dots up, that behaviour change was an early red flag.

cindersrella · 21/03/2019 20:28

Hugged I said to my husband I am going to get him checked out to make sure he is okay. Sorry to hear about your cat 😞
