Cat missing my heart is breaking

My two year old cat is missing. I've not seen him since about 11pm on Wednesday night.

The weather here has been atrocious. He's got free use of a cat flap but has never gone awol for this long. He's very wary of people so I'm sure he isn't sheltering in another house.

He always comes when I shake his dreamie tin, but this hasn't worked.

I love him so very much. I can't bear to think he's lost, trapped, unwell or lost.

I've been awake all night worrying about where he went and what distress he might be in. My mind is thinking all sorts of awful gruesome stuff and it won't stop.

I've got a lot of tricky stuff going on at the moment but I've coped with it all and was plodding on. However, this has floored me. I cannot stop crying for my poor boy.

I don't know how to pick myself up and go on today. I'm sorry, I know that sounds pathetic and selfish as at least I'm warm and well unlike my cat.

I'd do anything, anything to know he was ok.

I know even the power of mumsnet can't bring him home but any wise words or suggestions as how I cope would be so gratefully received.

Woohoo I found him!

Thank you for all the tips.

One of my neighbours front doors had blown open on Wednesday night, since then she has heard odd noises. After she got my flyer though her door she put 2&2 together and called me.

He was hiding but came straight out to me. I burst into tears, neighbour must think I'm bonkers!

I've got him home and have shut the cat flap for a while whilst he rebalances himself. He's pretty annoyed about that and is acting like nothing happened!

Thank you everyone. I'm so grateful. I will pay this forward by supporting other posters who loose cats in the future.

Oh how I wish he could wear a tracker!

Try one of these then - you can fit them on their collar. I used to have one on DCat2's collar but he kept abandoning his collars everywhere so it got expensive!
Glad he's back Smile

Toddlerteaplease · 15/03/2019 15:41

Really glad he's home. Definitely get a tracker. My indoor. At is getting one. As she's not trustworthy!

Threetoedsloth · 15/03/2019 15:45

Oh I am delighted you found him. We love them so.

peoplepleaser1 · 15/03/2019 15:47

Am really interested in the tracker but am insure about putting collar on my cat.

We have a huge hedge that he spends time in and I worry that he might hang himself in a collar. I know some have release mechanisms but I'm not sure how reliable they are....

Soooo pleased for you! After a few close calls we now block the cat flap in the evening and keep them in with a litter tray. They didn't like it at first but now they're in the rhythm and seem to come home and settle down at dusk.

pilates · 15/03/2019 15:52

Glad it was a happy ending for you 👏🏼

BoswellsBonkersBrexshit · 15/03/2019 16:08

SirVixofVixHall · 15/03/2019 16:24

So pleased for you op .

GreenOliveOrBlackOlive · 15/03/2019 16:25

I’ve popped back to the thread with fingers crossed and this is the absolute best news! Grin I’m so pleased he’s back. But you were great to do what you did and found him. What relief x 😸

GreenOliveOrBlackOlive · 15/03/2019 16:28

No way would mine wear a collar. They’d get out of it somehow and destroy it. I wish there was something tiny to track them like the microchip implant.

MarthasGinYard · 15/03/2019 16:36

Fantastic!!😻

Beautifullycalm · 15/03/2019 16:36

FANTASTIC NEWS !!

ISaySteadyOn · 15/03/2019 17:17

So glad for you, OP.

Shinesweetfreedom · 15/03/2019 18:47

Yeah I feel exactly the same about not trusting a collar on a cat,no matter how much other cat owners try to reassure.

Minkies11 · 15/03/2019 18:53

OMG OP so pleased for you - have had the same with one of mine - I was distraught and cried in front of a random women I met out looked for him! Please think about quick release reflective collars - we buy them and file the clips away slightly so they release easier and it works really well. We used tabcat trackers on ours but only let them out during daytime and they are used to the routine now. So pleased for you!

GarthFunkel · 15/03/2019 19:00

We've had similar wandering cats and got a tractive GPS tracker (on a quick release collar) and let them wear it over a few trips out just so we knew what their range actually was. We'd been calling and leafleting but totally in the wrong area as it turns out.

peoplepleaser1 · 15/03/2019 20:02

Thanks everyone. I am so so happy to have my boy back.

He's annoyed that I've shut him in but he has allowed me several long cuddles so I think he missed home.

He seems fine but his coat doesn't look the same as it usually does. It's hard to describe but it just looks more shaggy somehow, sort of clumped but not in a knotted way. Probably due to lack of food, water and grooming.

I've had a horrid few weeks with lots of tough stuff going on but nothing seems to matter as much now I have him back.

Thanks again for the hand holds and advice today.

So so happy he's back safe and sound..
I've been following this thread with my fingers crossed for you and I'm so happy he's ok ..Thanks

thecatneuterer · 16/03/2019 00:50

So pleased he's back OP.

I wish there was something tiny to track them like the microchip implant. The problem that hasn't been overcome is that it would need a power source. Unless cats will submit to being put on charge for a few hours each night this isn't going to be available any time soon.
