It's not looking good is it?

A couple of weeks ago my cat went missing for about a week. He came back looking ok, maybe a bit thin but eating, purring playing etc. He had some fur missing from his back, not like an attack but like he's been pulling it.

He was wormed 3 months ago and flea treated 1 month ago. Both due when he was missing but I was just giving him a few days home before I did it.

Last night he looked lethargic, this morning he has had a tiny drink but he is just lyingdown. Won't eat, won't even take chicken or even sniff it, he's normally totally food orientated. He's shaky on his feet and only slightly responding to me touching him.

How likely is this going to be something that doesn't require a load of blood tests and scans or be pts?

I'm so upset

Think you really need to get him to the vet ASAP.

Sorry should have mentioned inn the OP
The earliest the vet can see him is 3.20. I'm just clinging to a slight hope that it may be something easily curable but deep down I know it's more likely close to the end. :(

That is certainly a quick decline which is always a worry, but there is no point in speculating as you're seeing the vet in a few hours. Good luck to you both.

Minkies11 · 11/03/2019 13:05

Hope it's ok for you - just give him comfort until your appointment. He may be lucky - don't give up just yet.

imoffthedeependwatchasidivein · 11/03/2019 13:07

I've been sat with him, his heart rate is really low , about 60-70 bpm and irregular. He's just walked a few feet to get a drink but his legs are wobbly. I wish these 2 hours would go quickly x

I think I would take him now and sit in the vet waiting room if necessary. But speak to them when you arrive and they should treat him as an emergency. Just go now.

Minkies11 · 11/03/2019 13:24

Second that! Get him in a basket/ carrier or whatever and get him in there. At least he's in the right place if he gets worse.

imoffthedeependwatchasidivein · 11/03/2019 13:31

I'm just making arrangements daughter to be collected and then I will take him asap. :(

Good luck OP. Hoping it’s something easily treatable. You’re doing the right thing.

Dontgiveamonkeys1350 · 11/03/2019 17:14

I hope everything is okay.

Kenworthington · 11/03/2019 17:16

I hope your lovely dcat is ok op

imoffthedeependwatchasidivein · 11/03/2019 17:50

Thanks all. He was in severe kidney failure, she said they could have had him on a drip for days to flush them through but he still might not make it anyway. So I made the horrible decision to let him go. I'm heartbroken, I hand reared him from newborn

Flowers I'm so sorry for your loss. It's horrible when it happens so quickly.

Minkies11 · 11/03/2019 18:18

So sorry Flowers

Wolfiefan · 11/03/2019 18:19

I am so so sorry for your loss. A brave decision. Almost impossibly hard to make but you put him first and he was so lucky to have you. Flowers

JenniferJareau · 11/03/2019 18:20

So sorry for your loss Flowers It is heartbreaking when they leave us.

Toddlerteaplease · 11/03/2019 18:22

So sorry. My girl went down hill very quickly with kidney failure. It's horrible.

imoffthedeependwatchasidivein · 11/03/2019 19:32

I feel horrible that cost even came into it. Although I may have made the same decision either way.

They said it would be 5 days on a drip and even then he might not make it.

I know that would be horrible for him and even though he was obviously poorly today, he was peaceful and relaxed and I just thought it would be for the best. Questioning myself now though :( :(

So sorry, I think you’ve made the kindest decision for him x

Vinorosso74 · 11/03/2019 20:29

So sorry and how sad he deteriorated so quickly. It sounds like it was the right decision.

Wolfiefan · 11/03/2019 22:04

I am so sorry but I think given his steep decline you did exactly the right thing. I’m all for treatment when it has a good chance of being successful or isn’t invasive. But we can’t explain what we are doing or why. He was clearly so poorly. (You would have felt awful if you put him through that treatment and things weren’t calm or peaceful at the end.) You put him first. It’s still heartbreaking though isn’t it. Sad

imoffthedeependwatchasidivein · 11/03/2019 22:22

Thank you. My children are distraught. Starting to think owning animals isn't the best idea for us

OP posts:
Wolfiefan · 12/03/2019 09:12

Of course it feels like that now. They break our hearts when we lose them. But each day they are with us they make our life so much richer.
Be kind to yourself. You’re grieving. Flowers
