Kitten refusing to eat

So I got this little bundle of joy 6 days ago, all seemed fine when we viewed and we saw both parents. The issue is he refuses to eat and has done since we got him, the lady that sold him to me said he was on Royal Canin digestive food but he literally won't touch it.

We took him to the vets on Friday and he weighed 770g he's gone again today and despite tablets he weighs 750g

I've tried contacting the person who sold him to me due to the fact I've already spent £200+ in vets bills, medication etc and she said to call if there was any issues, however, she is now ignoring my calls/texts

The vets have said if he doesn't eat we'll be looking at thousands (5+) in feeding tubes, round the clock care and trying to find what's wrong etc. Would the woman who was selling him and other kittens known he was ill? If so is there anything we can do?

I paid £400 for him and have already spent half of that in 4 days of owning him we love him dearly but theres no way we'll be able to get the thousands it could take by the time he needs it

Definitely a different vet first thing tomorrow morning, make it very clear how long it is since he ate.

wigglypiggly · 11/02/2019 23:48

Poor kitty, I hope he pulls through, please take him back to the vet, do you have pdsa or blue cross near you. He looks like a tabby, did she give you pedigree papers confirming hes a Bengal. I think you've been badly conned. Sending paw hugs to you both. Are you able to open his mouth, see if its sore.

Look whats done is done, no point in beating the OP about the head about poor choices. It's easy to be taken in by these money grabbing fuckers. That vet is shite by the way, I know lots of them and kitten could ave been put on fluids, syringe fed by a caring vet nurse or vet assistant who knows a little more than you about rearing baby kittens. No slight on you, its just hard for people who are uncertain of what they are doing.
Try this also, pop on a pair of gloves, and get warm water and cotton wool and rub its little anus hourly to stimulate it weeing and pooing, the poor baby may be constipated.
This is the mousse I recommend for you to try

Ps I have 7 cats so I know a little about rearing the wee tinkers in case you are worried I am giving you incorrect information. 4 of mine have been and reared. All of mine are rescues, some as young as 3 weeks old, one may have been a teeny bit younger, but patience, perseverance and time usually brings them right.I will post a pic in a second of the teeniest one

Behind bars for his own safety lol. I had a giant breed dog too then

Can you get in touch with Cats Protection urgently and get to another vet ASAP tomorrow or I really don’t think he will make it till Wednesday.
Fucking hate these scummy people who make money off breeding.
Anyone legit would not be blocking you now.Can you make others aware of this so called breeder.

Veterinari · 12/02/2019 06:17

He’s at risk of hypoglycaemia and needs syringe feeding.
Bengals should be 9 weeks before they leave their mum - he’s nowhere close to that. Did you see mum and the rest of the litter ? Has he been dewormed or vaccinated?

Legally he’s property and you could return him to the breeder and report them to trading standings to recoup your money as he’s not ‘fit for purpose’

I can’t believe you paid £400 for a crossbred kitten that’s way too you to be rehomed!

FamilyLawAdvice · 12/02/2019 11:00

He attacked my leg when I got ham out the fridge so I put a little In his food and he’s eaten it plus the kitten food 😁

I don't want to give him too much to soon so currently only gave him a couple of tea spoons and will do so every couple of hours does that sound ok with slowly increasing the amount?

He's due to be weighed wednesday so will hopefully will be a weight increase

If you haven't already done so, I'd try him on kitten milk and mousse. It has to be worth a try. Do you have a photo taken on his first few days with you?

FamilyLawAdvice · 12/02/2019 11:44

Yes, this was day one

Oh that is good to hear! Smile

wigglypiggly · 12/02/2019 12:16

I'm so happy hes eaten, hope he gets stronger each day, he looks a real little trooper.

chemenger · 12/02/2019 12:37

Thank goodness! Keep giving him food little and often and water to drink. Keep an eye on him to make sure he is using his litter tray as well.

thequeenoftarts · 12/02/2019 15:17

Yayyy great news, feed little and often and offer kitten milk and/or water.
Not sure if you know this, not everyone does but cats shouldn't drink cows milk as most cats are intolerant to it. I find pedigrees of any breed usually harder work than you normal crossbreeds.
Well done on getting him to eat and ps he is adorable

hartof · 12/02/2019 15:36

Glad he's eaten, hope he continues to do so!

He's so cute!!

DiaryofWimpyMumm · 12/02/2019 15:39

Great news that he's eating! What's his name?

FamilyLawAdvice · 12/02/2019 17:31

I'm offering kitten milk along side too

His name is T'Challa (The not so black panther)

minkies11 · 12/02/2019 17:56

He is gorgeous x hope he takes to his food now. He's still very little so wet food much better for him at this stage and he will be getting moisture from it as well.

Shinesweetfreedom · 12/02/2019 23:02

That’s marvellous. Can anyone else confirm though I was told cats can’t eat pork

GiantKitten · 13/02/2019 00:08

According to google they can but shouldn’t have a lot - too much fat & sodium apparently.

LazyFace · 13/02/2019 13:56

Raw feeders do give pork (but not salty ham and such). Too much fat probably isn't a problem for a growing kitten.

ifonly4 · 13/02/2019 14:06

He's so lovely. It's hard to judge his age, but he doesn't look like a 5/6 week old.

Glad he's eaten. Hopefully it was due to early nerves, but little and often is good and also the milk will help build him up. Keep us posted.

Jaxhog · 13/02/2019 14:06

Fingers crossed that he keeps on going. He looks gorgeous!
