If your cat fell in a bin FULL of curry, how would you best clean her?

Dcat's had an accident round the back of the takeaway.
I've showered her off, but she's still quite greasy, a bit orange in parts, and smells of curry. I didn't want to use soap/shampoo as wasn't sure about her skin. Is there such thing as cat shampoo?

I used dog shampoo on our cat when he came home covered in oil. That didn’t work so I tried the kid’s shampoo*. That didn’t work so I rang the vet. She suggested washing up liquid. That worked.

*this was the very popular “no tears” version. The description applied to the bathee rather than the bather...

Guineapig...

My cat fell into the inspection pit of a local garage and came home covered in oil too! I rang vet and washing up liquid was suggested....it worked

Hahahaha Grin This thread has really lifted my evening. And made me glad that I have a short-legged dog who can't jump into anything. Grin

Fairy liquid works and isn't too harsh once in a while. It could make her ill potentially so I'd try to get as much off as I could.

SuziQ10 · 04/02/2019 21:40

I have washed my cat before (she got paint on her fur). I used baby shampoo. She didn't like it at the time but was ok after about 15 mins of getting out & lightly dried off

DyslexicNotThick · 04/02/2019 21:44

I empathise op.
I still bear the scars of the time dcat came home covered in fox poo. That stuff stinks! All the related internet research I did said to use ketchup to neutralise the fox poo. Dcat loved having the ketchup massaged in, but my god she fought the shower trying to wash it out.

DD and I did the best we could but her white fur was stained until it naturally fell out. The (previously white )bathroom looked like a murder scene with red splatters everywhere, even on the ceiling.

While lying in the bath, I use my imagination to make pictures out of the pink stains on the ceiling and walls, but it's a bit harder to do with the scars on my arms.

Good luck op, I reckon you'll need it. PS don't try ketchup!

I will have a rummage in pets at home tomorrow after work for some suitable shampoo. No photos - she's hiding under the bed in n fear of being showered again.

More importantly, why do you have a bin full of curry?

QuestionableMouse · 04/02/2019 22:26

Mine likes a bath... I bathed her a few times as a kitten and still do it occasionally just in case I ever need to for real. She lays there and purrs and doesn't want to get out.

elephantoverthehill · 04/02/2019 22:27

Poppadum in the bath with normal shampoo.

BerylStreep · 05/02/2019 08:56

It's a bit chilli to be bathing cats at the moment.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 05/02/2019 09:09

Poor darling! You'll need to curry favour with her after bathing her.

hugoagogo · 05/02/2019 09:17

Oh god I can just smell it now.
I don't envy you the task of washing her, I still have flashbacks to washing my old cat's squitty bum.Shock

EL2019 · 05/02/2019 09:18

When my cat fell in oily water and wouldn’t let me clean him, I took him to the vet who degreased him and put him in a heated cage to dry out.

HomoHeinekenensis · 05/02/2019 09:22

Vet nurse here. Swarfega put on dry and massaged in and that washed out with Fairy and then rinse rinse and rinse some more. There will still be a residue though.

HomoHeinekenensis · 05/02/2019 09:24

Many years ago I was working as a locum Vet Nurse and Albert Roux brought in a Starling that had fallen into some vinagrette. I wanted to eat the Starling it smelled so good! It came clean and we released it.

You've done this before? :)

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 05/02/2019 09:51

Look at her greasy, turmeric stained feet Sad. Her lovely white underbelly is also orange tinged. She's going to have another shower tonight .

Poor sweet! She is looking very contrite.

PregnantSea · 05/02/2019 10:01

I'd use some cat shampoo and give her a proper bath in the sink. Just don't wash her head - if that's got curry on it she's better being left to clean it herself.

Amazon sell waterless cat shampoo - in that you put it on, rub it in, dry it off. It's very watery so less 'waterless' - just no rinsing required. It works on fox shit but I'm not sure it'd take oil.

SoupDragon · 05/02/2019 11:56

😂😂😂

Not helpful, I know.

Um, I believe tomatoes ar good are removing odours from animals. I'm not entirely sure that's a good idea with a cat mind you but if you decide to bath your cat in tomatoes, please video it!
