Too active after spay!

Took my kittens to be neutered on Wednesday and they had their post op check today. Boy cat has lactulose as he hasn't had a poo. The vet was concerned about Girl cat as she has a bulge at the operation site, which means she's been too active! We've tried to keep them calm and stop them playing- but of course we can't watch them constantly. Around an hour after coming home from the vets she learned to jump on the kitchen work top! We're trying to arrange borrowing a dog crate to keep her in but I'm so worried....the vet said if it gets worse or feels hot she needs to go in as an emergency and they'll have to operate 😔 Has anyone experienced this? Is there some sort of magic trick for keeping a cat calm and still?!

No there isn't. We don't even tell people to try and I've never heard of it causing problems. Occasionally the operation site doesn't heal properly as you describe, but I've never known a vet to say it's because of too much activity.

The vet should be able to tell if they can feel/see the stitches have been torn or undone due to too much activity. It's not unusual to have a reaction to the stitches and some swelling where the incision is so I'm not really sure what they think is wrong? And infection would cause it to feel hot as they say and it would look nasty as well.

Ah ok that's interesting! Do you know what would cause the area to bulge in this way? Or is that just normal for 2 days post op?

Thanks @viccat
The stitches look fine, seem to be healing well, there's no redness and it doesn't feel hot. There's just this swelling- it feels like loose skin? Around the size of a golf ball perhaps. When she's stood up you can see it hanging down a little, and when the vet stood up her up on her back legs you could see it sticking out. I'll get a picture when I get home. Google is telling me it's a 'seroma' but I'm not relying too heavily on Google!

We tried the crate last night and she went crazy! My partner sat next to it trying to calm her but she was throwing herself around and would've hurt herself. And her brother was trying to dig/ bite his way in to get to her! What a nightmare. They're currently confined to the hallway/ landing. She could potentially run up and down the stairs, and there's a chance they could still play together, but at least there's no furniture for her to jump on. It doesn't feel right to separate them, they get so distressed 😔

Just adding the picture that I forgot to add the other day!

Still massively stressed by all this. 😩

Our girlcat also was ridiculously active (hanging off the curtains within a few hours) and as novice catslaves, we fretted hugely about her wound. She developed a bulge similar I think to yours, and when I rushed her to the nurse, she said that fluid had collected in the space where her womb had been. The nurse drew the fluid off with a needle (you can imagine how well that went) and said that as it was clear, there was nothing to worry about. Maybe take her in again for reassurance?
